Senior Director Hardware Development Datacenter GPU and Accelerated Processing
THE ROLE:
As the Senior Director of Hardware Development in the Datacenter and GPU Accelerated Processing Division, you will be the functional leader responsible for the thermal, electrical, and mechanical design of the AMD’s accelerator board and references systems. You will interact with other key AMD engineering teams such as silicon design, packaging, signal integrity, platform validation, manufacturing, and operation, and you will also be responsible for ensuring that our designs meet the requirements of key hyper scale, ODM, and OEM partners.
THE PERSON:
The Senior Director of Hardware Development will have excellent communication skills, planning skills, technical expertise, is a team player, possesses broad managerial/technical leadership skills and critical problem solving and troubleshooting skills, is a self-starter, and is well organized. They will be market savvy and comfortable in a multi-tasking environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Senior Director of Hardware Development will be responsible for developing and leading a rapidly growing team of approximately 50 engineers in a highly focused global engineering team based in Austin, Texas. The successful candidate will have a board engineering development background and have demonstrated success as a functional leader of a global team delivering commercially viable products (silicon to systems) to the marketplace in a timely and cost-effective manner.
The Senior Director will lead teams responsible for electrical board design, thermal/mechanical design, PCB technology and layout, and management firmware. They will manage work assignments and coordinate results cross-functionally and globally. They will be responsible for building and motivating a high-performance team through recruiting skill development, and organizational structure. They will also develop key relationships with OEM/ODM and hyperscale customers to ensure that our accelerator product hardware designs meet market needs.
The selected candidate will have the ability to ‘influence’ and effectively communicate their vision throughout the organization. They will be a driver of continuous improvement and new ways of thinking by promoting new ideas/perspectives around board design, architectures, and product definition.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
The Senior Director of Hardware Development must have demonstrated the ability to be a constant force for innovation and improvement throughout their career. The successful candidate must have experience as a functional organization leader in leading-edge technology development.
Critical Experiences & Competencies for Success:
Management Leadership Experience - At least ten years (10+) of progressive management experience in a large, fast-paced environment leading functional teams. Project management of multiple technically diverse programs in parallel is required.
Technical Experience - Solid understanding of the system and board design including power regulation, high-speed signaling, PCB technology, design for cost, design for manufacturing, industry standard bus topologies. Experience partner with OEM/ODM system developers and/or hyperscale datacenters to deliver products and/or systems.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
BS in Electrical Engineering is required. An advanced engineering degree (MS or Ph.D.) would be an added plus.
