Senior Director, Data Center GPU Software Solutions
The Role
AMD’s Data Center GPU and Accelerated Computing business unit is looking for a passionate, results-oriented Director of Data Center GPU Software Solutions - High-Performance Computing and Machine Learning, to lead the development team and drive the technology to enable significant business value in the GPU computing domain through enabling and performance optimization of both industry-standard as well as proprietary commercial and government software applications on AMD hardware.
The Person
Our ideal candidate will possess advanced High-Performance Computing and Machine Learning software expertise with a track record of success within the industry. You have demonstrated credibility as an expert in your field, with both internal and external stakeholders and customers. You have experience leading global teams in a matrixed environment, and strong communication, influencing and leadership skills.
Ideal candidates will have a deep understanding of both commercial, government, and industry proprietary High-Performance Computing applications as well as industry-standard Machine Learning benchmarks and applications.
Ability to translate highly technical concepts into actionable plans.
Ability to drive hands-on proof of concept demonstrations to collect actionable data.
Skill in analyzing tradeoffs and making analytical, fact-based recommendations that have substantial technical, business, and financial impacts.
Ability to guide both AMD software stack and hardware product definition and development using credible insights developed by interacting with end customers, ISVs, and strategic partners.
Ability to build relationships with strategic customers and partners to ensure that AMD products are built to match the evolving needs of the market.
Key Responsibilities
Guide development and goals of the AMD software stack from an end-user applications requirements and market needs perspective, targeting both the HPC and Machine Learning/ Machine Intelligence training and inference markets
Direct porting and performance optimization of client industry-standard, open-source, and government High Performance Computing applications software and Machine Learning/Machine Intelligence benchmarks in support of AMD Commercial HPC and ML/MI business opportunities
Drive Technical interface pre-sales engagement requiring software development support providing Proof of Concept (POC) support for customer application porting and optimization on AMD GPU’s as well as supporting RFI, RFP performance projections including customer-specific application porting and optimization, refactoring codes on AMD GPU’s for Business Unit customer engagements.
Ensure our customers and development teams understand and realize the full performance potential of AMD GPU products in the data center by delivering comprehensive and timely performance analysis for relevant data center GPU workloads in the areas of HPC, ML/DL and Visual Cloud. This includes providing well-documented, repeatable, accurate performance data and analysis for AMD internal HPC, ML/DL and Visual Cloud engineering and marketing teams.
Drive application software Quality Assurance through continuously testing the supported applications portfolio to ensure that the containerized applications delivered to external customers meet the highest software quality standards
Drive technical engagements for ISV Relationship management including cross-functional activities and engagement to enable AMD-specific optimizations and features required for ISVs
Drive Program and Project Management across all Datacenter GPU Software Solutions organizational responsibilities, including managing customer engagement through the bid process, gathering software requirements, managing customer/team reported defects and feature requests. This involves managing cross-function activities and engagements (FAE, CE, MLSE, CPU, BU) for application software, Proof of Concepts (POCs) requiring AMD application support as well as customer-specific software application development requests on AMD GPUs and AMD’s existing government contracts such as CORAL-2.
Support AMDs current Machine Learning/Machine Intelligence Cloud Computing customer engagements and initiatives while driving forward looking porting and performance optimization for key Machine Learning workloads and benchmarks.
Preferred Experience
Solid knowledge of software fundamentals especially in High-Performance Computing, GPU Server Based computing, and Deep Learning markets
Consistent track record in engineering execution, delivery software on time with high quality and achieving premium high-performance software solutions
Experience building and leading large global software engineering and application teams
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written skills
Experience leading multiple projects with competing priorities
Solid understanding of C/C++ Programming, CUDA Programming and Linux Operating System internals and server system architecture
Passionate about automated testing and software Quality Assurance
Familiarity with various deployment models including cloud, virtualization, and containers
Self-motivated with an ability to multi-task
Academic Credentials
10+ years' engineering management and 10+ years' software development experience
Masters’ Degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience in related field(s)
PMP certification or equivalent project management training or experience
MBA is a strong plus
