Job Description

As the Oracle DBA within our Factory Systems team, you will be responsible for the management of our Oracle databases that support our Factory operations.

This is a 'hands on' role where you'll use your technical expertise to ensure the databases supporting our Warehouse Management and Warehouse Automation solutions provide a highly available and consistent service to our business. Delivering operational readiness of our systems (security, health and performance), performing database migrations, and supporting project deployments or troubleshooting activities.

To be successful in this role, you will be motivated by driving change within our Oracle technical capability, growing and developing our team's understanding of systems and use cases, working closely with our platform development teams/tribes to drive intelligent and creative solutions to complex supply chain puzzles. All the time helping Gousto build a stable operational systems foundation from which it can continue to scale successfully.

The role will report into the Group Systems Manager and is a role that can be based locally to any of our current or future sites (Spalding, London, Warrington, Thurrock or Burton on Trent).

What You'll Do:

  • Daily management of multiple Oracle database environments from development environments to mission-critical production systems.
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability and security.
  • Apply database best practices and techniques to ensure deployment and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations.
  • Independently analyse, solve and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
  • Assist our development engineers with complex query tuning and production issue resolution.
  • Plan and perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities.
  • Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.
  • Gathering requirements, system analysis (including customised code) as well as finalisation of technical/functional specifications.
  • Collaborate with business partners, external vendors and our IT and Cyber Security teams to support operations and adhere to the SLAs and process frameworks.

Skills, knowledge and abilities required to be effective in this position:

  • Oracle DBA with proven experience of Oracle 12c and 19c in a mission critical production environment.
  • Installs, upgrades, patching.
  • Unix scripting skills.
  • Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Experience with backups, restores and recovery models.
  • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for Oracle both on premise and cloud hosted.
  • Experience working in cloud environments including AWS would be advantageous.
