Job Description

The Role:

  • Reporting directly to our Head of Engineering under our CTO you will lead the effort to design and build a Business Intelligence platform covering all aspects of the business.
  • You will work with every senior head of the department to design, build and maintain real-time, flexible dashboards and reporting.
  • As a rapidly growing direct-to-consumer e-commerce company, data is at the core of everything we do. 
  • Your role is integral to the rapid growth of the business so you will have the full support and engagement of the company at all levels.

What we are looking for:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. You will be working with almost everyone in the business and you are an expert in analysing and documenting requirements.
  • The ability to identify areas that can benefit from analysis and to collect and document requirements from users.
  • Experience in reviewing, assessing, and selecting suitable products, e.g. databases, ETL tools, visualisation tools etc. and clearly expressing your selection process and criteria.
  • The ability to review, assess, and document our existing data platforms, their structure, and contents, strengths, and weaknesses.
  • Expertise in relational and dimensional modeling (OLTP & OLAP).
  • Expertise in designing and building data structures for fast and flexible reporting and dashboards, with suitable granularity, dimensions, drill paths, "freshness" criteria etc.
  • Expertise in ETL (ELT) theory, practice, and tools.
  • Expertise in designing and building data pipelines to collect business data into reporting repositories, including automation.
  • Expertise in creating reports and data visualisations, using suitable presentation tools and styles and delivery methods and frequencies.
  • The ability to identify new opportunities to add value to source data, e.g. constructing histories.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms and data products (particularly AWS) including setup, maintenance, deployment, and backups.
  • Essential technologies:
  • RDBMS and SQL
  • Document databases and No-SQL
  • API integration (REST and GraphQL)
  • Cloud platform management (primarily AWS)
  • Cloud data products (primarily AWS), e.g. Redshift, Data Pipeline, Aurora, DynamoDB etc.
  • B.I. tools e.g. Power BI, Tableau, a variety of ETL tools etc.
