The RVH Screeners greet, screen and respond to inquiries from all staff, physicians, patients and visitors (including contractors) who enter the health centre. Screeners must use good judgment and respond appropriately during pandemic and crisis situations, and may be required to direct individuals away from the Health Centre.
The Screener positions involve a very high degree of interaction with patients, staff and the general public. This position involves considerable professionalism, judgment and sensitivity as patients, families, staff and community professionals may be difficult to interact with due to the stressful times we’re experiencing. There may be times when they deal with emotionally charged individuals. As a Screener, the successful candidates may also be required to perform administrative functions in support of screening. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Screening patients, staff & visitors at all hospital entrances with standard screening questions, ensuring consistency in every interaction
- Ask individuals to perform hand hygiene and don a mask when passing through the screening area
- Responsible for the preparation and presentation of screening areas, including ensuring the maintenance and organization of supplies and obtain extra stock and supplies as directed
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment and practice infection prevention and control practices
- Communicate with various programs/areas within the organization to determine patient/visitor eligibility to enter
- Providing way-finding and other information to visitors and patients, including assisting patients to their appointments via wheelchairs
- Delivering resources and materials to support the operations of the Health Centre
- Other duties as assigned: this may involve performing any basic functions required to support the Health Centre during the pandemic
As a qualified candidate you will have the following job requirements:
- Minimum grade 12 or equivalent required
- Student or graduate of a health services related program an asset
- Formal training in a health care setting a definite asset
- Experience working with various patient populations an asset
- Strong customer service experience with demonstrated success in conflict resolution

In this role you will be expected to work all shifts (including days, nights, weekends, and holidays). The hours of work, including days off and work area, may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and applicable statutes
