About the role

The primary purpose of the Planner role is to process a variety of resource consent applications (both land use and subdivision), making sound recommendations in accordance with the requirements of the Resource Management Act and the District Plans (Operative and Proposed District Plan’s).

In the Senior Planner role, you will process some applications, including a number of more complex applications, and provide with oversight throughout the process, providing technical guidance to Planners, reviewing their recommendations, and exercising decision making under the Council’s delegations.

You will have access to a wide variety of interesting work.

The resource consent team has other growth opportunities coming up and would welcome applications from highly experienced planners to join our team.

About You

The successful candidate will hold :

  • Tertiary degree qualification in Resource Management / Town Planning or related discipline.
  • Membership of the New Zealand Planning Institute or eligible to become a member.
  • Good understanding of the complexities of a Council planning environment.
  • Demonstrated practical application of the Resource Management Act 1991 and allied legislation. (2+ years for Resource Consent Planner, and 5+ years for Senior Resource Consent Planner)
  • Proven knowledge of the planning and resource consenting processes.
  • Environment Court / Environment Protection Agency (EPA) experience desirable for Senior Planner (though not necessary).
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining relationships across the stakeholder community.
  • Highly motivated, outcomes-focused, and innovative planning professional desired.
