Minimum qualifications:

• PhD degree in Computer Science, related technical field or equivalent experience.
• Experience building Natural Language Processing and ML models.
• Experience with general purpose programming languages e.g., C/C++ or Python.

Preferred qualifications:

• Research experience in cross-lingual transfer learning, few-shot learning, and/or zero-shot learning.
• Demonstrated technical and hands-on ability to design, drive and execute an independent research agenda.
• Track record of delivering results in industry, as well as first-authored publications at workshops or peer-reviewed conferences such as ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, AAAI, ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR or similar.

Our mission is to broaden Natural Language Processing (NLP) representation to create equitable access to language technology globally. We’re focused on getting there by learning more data-efficient and robust models; models that learn from text, speech, and video; and developing methods for efficiently generating data in low-resource languages.

Research happens at Google everyday, on many different embedded teams throughout the company. Our research reaches the user through both services and products such as Search, Maps, Google Assistant, Google Translate, Google Cloud and our computing, storage, and networking infrastructure. To achieve this, we’re working on a wide variety of projects that utilize the latest state-of-the-art technologies that push the boundaries of what is possible.

Responsibilities

• Design novel and accurate NLP algorithms and systems, undertaking cutting edge research in these areas.
• Validate findings using an experimental and iterative approach and effectively present them back.
• Scope out, run experiments, and implement research concepts in new technology for Google's product teams.
• Collaborate with engineers and other cross-functional teams, including linguists, program managers, etc. as well as with academia and the open source community.
