About this role

Reporting to the Senior Engineering Optimisation Manager within Network Delivery, as Regional Safety and Sustainability Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring safety and sustainability standards are known, understood and adhered to, within the Network Delivery programmes and external Partner organisations. 

Further focus is required on the CDM 2015 regulations, and in particular that Openreach has evidence that suitable polices and processes are in place and that they are able to demonstrate compliance to those policies and processes. 

You will also be responsible for managing the safety and sustainability performance at a regional level whilst contributing to the overall safety and sustainability culture of FND. Activities will include field-based governance, management information reporting and key performance management as well as continuous improvement activities through our safety and sustainability improvement programmes.

A key part of this role will be to share best practice with other suppliers and Openreach and working with us to drive a Work Safe-Home Safe culture in everything we do.  Keeping our people safe is an absolute priority for Openreach, therefore excellent competence in the role is essential. 

We are recruiting to two positions covering the South Region and East Region within Network Delivery.

You'll have the following responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Engineering Optimisation Manager to develop and drive the strategic safety and sustainability vision for the region.
  • Leads the safety and sustainability focussed culture across the region, promoting Openreach and Fibre Network Delivery values and safety and sustainability behaviours.
  • Accountable for planning and delivering governance activities including, audits, tours and inspections.
  • Owns audit of the contractor hazardous pipeline process, sharing best practice across all contractor.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the c3,000 contractors that do work on behalf of Openreach operate in a compliant manner, as well as providing transactional safety and sustainability advice and risk assessment for the contract organisation.
  • Responsible for ensuring accident investigations carried out by the contractors are thorough and identify root causes by auditing their investigations. 

You'll have the following skills & experience

We are looking for candidates with relevant engineering and construction experience, as well as relevant qualifications listed below;

  • Minimum NEBOSH Diploma level safety qualification or equivalent
  • Minimum Degree level environmental qualification or equivalent
  • Member of recognised safety/environmental professional institute
  • Auditor qualifications (ISO14001/9001/45001)

You will be an expert user of Microsoft Office Systems and have experience in event management software. Specific experience in CDM 2015 would be advantageous.

Experience of working with Senior Managers and external contractor organisations to ensure that they have safety and sustainability plans and systems of work in place, as well as strong internal and external stakeholder management is an essential part to the role.
