Job Title: Refugee Settlement Cross-Cultural Worker

Location: South Canterbury

Hours: 35 per week for a fixed term till the end of June 2022, and the ability to work some evenings hours and Saturday am hours if required

Salary: Up to $65k per annum, pro-rata and depending on experience.

About the Refugee Settlement Cross-Cultural Worker role

Are you looking for a role where you can develop your skills, continue your career progression and make a real difference in your community? then our client is looking for you to be part of the Refugee Settlement Team in an important role as their Refugee Settlement Cross-Cultural Worker based in Timaru.

This role is funded until the end of June this year and a very good chance it will be continued once funding is approved for another year and you must live in Timaru or very close by due to the families needs for support.

The successful applicant will provide translation and interpreting support (Dari language or similar (Farsi); as well as cultural advice to the Refugee Settlement Services team and to former refugees settled in Timaru.

The Cross-Cultural Worker will form collaborative and supportive relationships with newly arrived refugees and their families and contribute to and support their smooth settlement into our community.

A high level of cultural competency is required, with respect and sensitivity to cultural differences and practices.

Ideally, applicants should have experience with Afghan refugee communities, either as a former refugee or through work or life experience.

The ability to work or be available in evenings and weekends if required is essential, applicants must have a current full driver's license.

Skills & experience required for this Refugee Settlement Case Worker role

• Previous experience working with Afghan refugees or Afghan migrant communities.
• Knowledge and understanding of refugee settlement in NZ or other relevant Cross-Cultural experience.
• Experience in Cross-Cultural service delivery and the ability to relate to people of different cultures and religious backgrounds
• Have a good understanding of the New Zealand system and local social services
• Have knowledge of confidentiality and privacy act practices in order to maintain client confidentiality at all times.
• Have a working level of computer skills (email, word documents, spreadsheets).
• Have excellent time management skills.
• High level of oral, listening, and written communication skills in both English and Dari/Farsi.
• Ability to network and build positive working relationships.
• Enthusiasm and commitment to work as a team member.
• Hold a current motor vehicle driver's license and willing to travel to fulfil job requirements.
