BDUK currently employs over 1,400 people in the UK and is responsible for delivering several exciting contracts to our UK defence customers including E-7 AEW&C, P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft, C4ISTAR Services, Through Life Support for the Chinook & Apache Fleets, Logistic Information Services and Training Services.

This post is for a Radio Hardware Engineer to work within the Engineering Function in Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) and will report to the Design & Production Engineering Manager. Prior experience in the design and testing of Military or civilian Radio Systems hardware integration into standalone & ground vehicle platforms desirable (but not essential)


As the senior technical team member in their assigned Integrated Product Team (IPT), the Technical Lead Engineer (TLE) is responsible for the technical compliance and quality of the system, enabling products, and Support System solutions for assigned IPT requirements across the full system engineering lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, development, integration, verification, deployment and sustainment, while enabling the achievement of business goals.  

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, integrate and document structural system requirements to establish the system design.
  • Develop, maintains and modifies structural system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Perform, integrates analytical and test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
  • Manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals.
  • Develop new design/analysis processes and tools to improve the effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort.
  • Investigate emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements. 
  • Develops test plans and oversees integration test of systems; Develop and maintain cable/wire harness detail and assembly designs.
  • Analyze results and performs design reviews. Develop and maintains electrical product detail, assembly and installation designs (e.g., equipment racks, power panels, cable routing and geometry, antennas)
  • Provide engineering design disposition on discrepancies (e.g., rejection tags, production action requests, shop revision requests)
  • Document processes, specifications and procedures that support the design and manufacture of electrical commodities
  • Develops statements of work, schedules and budgets. Performs technical review of supplier capabilities to facilitate source selection
  • Analyzes functional and physical input to assure development of complete integrated design and system architecture.

Qualifications and experience:
•    Engineering degree typically acquired through an accredited course of study is preferred (but not essential)
•    Chartership registered with an appropriate engineering council or ability to work towards registration.
•    Prior experience in the design and testing of Military or civilian Radio Systems hardware integration into standalone & ground vehicle platforms desirable
