Radio Frequency Engineer

Ongoing opportunity with NSW Telco Authority

Grade 7/8, Base salary maximum up to $110,064.00 per annum plus superannuation

Sydney Location

The NSW Telco Authority is looking for a Radio Frequency Engineer to contribute to the optimisation of telecommunications radio networks. There is a strong focus on network performance analysis and supporting operational activities. You will perform various testing and provide technical input on assigned projects making recommendations to improve the wireless systems and infrastructure supporting the PSN.

Key accountabilities include:

Provide RF propagation analysis, capacity analysis, interference analysis and drawing reviews to produce coverage maps.

Analyse network performance and implement optimisation techniques to ensure efficiency and effectiveness are continually improved.

Adhere to radio design guidelines and standards with RF planning and design ensuring EME compliance.

Apply cost-effective design solutions for the Public Safety Network to ensure solutions meet business objectives.

Perform drive-testing and walk-testing to capture and analyse site performance, provide support and problem resolution to minimise the impact of service outages.

Provide technical input on assigned projects to enable the delivery of agreed outcomes within the timeframes and frameworks established under organisational and divisional plans.

Collaborate with other disciplines such as transmission, core, civil, structural, acquisition, environmental and operations for troubleshooting or design proposal purposes.

Travel may be required occasionally to various locations - typically no more than 5% of time.

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

Good experience in telecommunications network performance management and optimisation strategies.

Sound experience in detailed design and acceptance.

Experience with drive/walk testing equipment and analysing results.

Highly competent in Mentum Planet or similar RF planning software.

Knowledge of interference, link budgets and spectrum planning.

Experience in network rollout or transformation environment (P25, TETRA, LTE, 5G) under a design, optimization, or deployment capacity

Tertiary qualification in telecommunications, electronic, electrical, or related engineering

Highly desirable:

Experience working in Public Safety or Mission Critical systems.

Experience or good understanding of In-Building Systems and repeaters.

Knowledge of P25 technology including physical site configuration, network architecture and site parameters.

Knowledge of P25 base station components, antennas, filters, combiners and site plumbing.
