Server Lead System Engineer

 

INTRODUCTION:

As AMD grows, growing our leadership in systems engineering expertise is essential for all the new products in the AMD pipeline. As Lead System Engineer, you will drive pioneering work to integrate server CPUs at the platform level to deliver solutions across the computing spectrum. This will include Data Center, HPC, and Machine Learning / Deep Learning.

 

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

As an EPYC Server Lead System Engineer, you are the technical leader responsible for System and Silicon Validation of the integrated CPU, BIOS & Firmware and platform hardware solutions This includes hardware (CPU, memory, high-speed IO, systems, and peripherals) and software (firmware, BIOS, drivers, OS, virtualization, system management, and applications). You will provide technical leadership across silicon design, platform design, platform debug, firmware development, software development, system validation and performance optimization to meet program goals of quality platform delivery on schedule at target performance.  

 

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

BS or MSEE degree and 15+ years of relevant working experience in new product development from a silicon design, platform design and/or product engineering discipline. The candidate will have experience both as a technical lead and/or a project manager.  A strong understanding of the general silicon design process (preferably CPU), from concept to tape-out and through production along with experience with driving a multi-disciplinary engineering teams across geographies. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills at both the detailed engineering and executive levels.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES - Overall leadership, validation planning, development and execution across AMD:

  • Develop detailed approach for Validation through Phased Validation Process
  • Assure that all delivery responsibilities are clearly defined across all relevant and participating organizations
  • Drive cross organization teams to ensure Silicon/SW/Platform/etc. features are in sync, development is supported, and validation is planned
  • Drive execution for integrated CPU validation, characterization, and debug at the platform level
  • Lead Defect prioritization and drive root-cause resolution
    • Provide overall prioritization for all observations found in validation
    • Act as technical leader driving root cause determination for high impact, complex observations whether found by AMD or our customers / partners
    • Drive delivery of production solutions to technical issues and design challenges

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Highly organized, able to prioritize, and juggle multiple work streams to tight deadlines
  • Strong analytical skills: Ability to structure and execute complex analysis, draw insights, and communicate summary conclusions/recommendations to senior management and AMD customers / partners
  • Matrix leadership: Ability to network, build relationships, and collaborate to drive effective decision-making across multiple functions and levels within AMD
  • Technical leadership: ability to champion, deliver and apply new tools, methods, capabilities to platform validation to improve, schedule and quality or deliver new platform features.
  • Executive communication: Both written and verbal - ability to clearly and concisely summarize program and problem status to provide AMD's executive team with actionable insight against product objectives
  • Prior experience with testing tools and environments, defect tracking and revision control
  • Experience with Computer Architecture concepts and silicon features
  • Experience with Linux  and Microsoft Operating Systems, Hypervisors (VMware, KVM, XEN, Hyper-V, etc.), and validation/certification processes for each of these environments

 

EDUCATION

  • BS or MSEE degree and 15+ years of relevant working experience in new product development from a silicon design, platform design and/or product engineering discipline
