Job Description

Are you looking for a career which is rewarding, at the cutting edge of project development and where you can really make a difference? Come and join our expanding Sizewell C (SZC) team and work on one of the most exciting projects in the UK, whilst being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. The SZC Project is a ~£20bn nuclear new build project in Suffolk which is currently going through its final development phases, with a view to start construction in 2023. When complete, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years which, along with renewables, will support EDF’s objective to help Britain achieve Net Zero by 2050.

We\'re looking for experienced Project Managers to join our Conventional Island Engineering & Delivery team, tasked with driving the delivery of the SZC project, largely through the replication of Hinkley Point C (HPC).

Our teams are set up to work flexibly, therefore you don’t have to live in London or the South East. If you’re able to travel to the office to collaborate with your team and stakeholders when required, you can be based anywhere in the UK. We provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively. You can expect to work at least 2 days per week from the SZC Project office, which is currently in central London but will be moving to Suffolk in time.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for overseeing all activities associated with the delivery of engineering contracts and securing resources that meet business and technical requirements, ensuring they’re delivered safely, as well as on time and budget.

Specifically, you’ll be accountable for:

  • Overseeing the nuclear power plant systems, structures and components in the Conventional Island and Balance of Plant programme
  • Working with the responsible designer and key contractors to deliver engineering studies, in line with the requirements for SZC
  • Working with multidisciplinary teams to prepare manufacturing and construction contracts
  • Driving the implementation of SZC site-specific design changes
  • Managing internal and external interfaces to ensure a coordinated approach to design and delivery
  • Managing early engagement with stakeholders (including suppliers) to identify obsolescence issues and other risks to replication
  • Managing the technical elements of the procurement process for specific contracts
  • Implementing lessons learned from HPC

The Skills

You’ll be an experienced Project Manager with an engineering background, preferably mechanical. You’ll have worked on large- scale construction projects, experience of nuclear would be ideal but isn’t essential.

We’re looking for someone who can demonstrate experience of:

  • Coordinating multi-disciplinary design/ procurement work and driving design/ procurement teams to deliver on time
  • Managing projects through the project lifecycle from concept to handover
  • Managing contracts for the design, manufacturing and/ or installation of industrial equipment
  • Managing engineers, consultants and other advisors throughout large and complex projects
  • Excellent communication skills in client-facing and contractor-facing situations

Desirable:

  • Degree and chartered status in an engineering, construction, physics or other related field
  • Understanding of nuclear power plant design and operations
  • APM or PMI Project Management qualification

If that all sounds like you, then we’d love to hear from you! We also have a full job description available upon applying.

Competitive Salary and Benefits

At EDF we’re dedicated to offering flexible benefits that support our people across all aspects of their lives. We’re delighted to offer a range of benefits to support our employees’ physical, emotional and financial wellbeing.

In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a market-leading company pension scheme, paid holidays and a range of flexible benefits, such as: a company incentive bonus plan, health cover, cycle to work scheme, discounts and employee pricing.
