Project Manager (27) – Africa Data Centres
Bechtel is supporting Africa Data Centres (ADC) in an ambitious programme to deliver 12 data centres across 10 African countries. Project Decima will initially provide at least 70MW capacity of much needed interconnected carrier and cloud-neutral data facilities in this currently under-served and rapidly expanding market. Bechtel will provide central programme management and in-country deployed teams to deliver engineering, procurement and construction services tailored to location specific requirements. Our Project Management Office (PMO) will initially be based in London with in-country teams deploying as early as September 2021. Initial team members will likely telework and business trip to the various site locations during the development phase. Long-term terms and conditions are under development.

We require Data Centre Managers for deployment to the following locations:
· Johannesburg, South Africa
· Nairobi, Kenya
· Lagos, Nigeria
· Other cities across Africa
General Responsibilities of project managers:
· Deliver the project(s) safely to time, cost and quality
· Provide a professional, first class, consistent and effective project management service to the clients, including project monitoring and reporting systems in accordance with company standards and guidelines.

Participate in the development of supply strategies and
framework contracts.
·
Provide detailed input for compilation of the business plan and
production of the possessions plan.
·
Control project change, risks and contingency within the project
life cycle and provide all cost, contingency and programme details to enable
the Sponsor to obtain authorization for portfolios/projects.
·
Provide a safe working environment in the execution of work
directly under the post holder’s responsibility, including development of
project safety plans and other associated documentation.
·
Identify training needs in safety, technical and management
areas for the personnel and contribute to their personal development.
Qualifications and Experience Factors
The below items are desirable factors that are taken into consideration when evaluating potential candidates. It is understood that not all applicants will have deep experience in all areas mentioned but experience of project management processes and principles is a must:
· Typically a bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and a minimum of 8 -10 years of relevant experience or 12 -14 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree
· Experience for managing all aspects of one or more medium projects, preferably Data Centres
· Technical experience in Construction, Engineering, Contracts or Project Controls preferred
· Experience in leading teams of 6-10 people
· Experience of subcontractor management preferable
· Experience/understanding of construction processes and concepts supervision and the handover of projects preferable
· Experience of the general tools/deliverables associated with successful project commissioning and handover activities.
· Working knowledge of the various types of approval certification associated with South African/African construction/testing preferable
· Strong communication skills.
· Computer literate in MS Office suite including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
