The Role:

AMD Research is an entrepreneurial research organization with a strong track record of driving research innovations into AMD products. We are a global leader in the development of the world’s most advanced high-performance computers (HPC), such as El Capitan, the world-leading 2 exaflop supercomputer.

We are looking for a researcher to drive our long-term vision for programming models and runtime systems in the next generation of high-performance computing devices. Does this describe you? If so, then join us!

The Person:

You love inventing and implementing new languages, APIs and abstractions to improve programmability, increase programmer efficiency and optimize performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze exciting future hardware architectures and design software abstractions to best exploit the new capabilities.
  • Define the programming abstractions for the next generation of high-performance computing accelerators.
  • Implement innovative software solutions and demonstrate their effectiveness on prototype hardware.
  • Drive the results of the research projects into product roadmaps.
  • Submit patentable inventions
  • Clearly communicate research results to academic, product and commercial audiences

Required Skills:

  • Strong understanding of runtime systems and programming models.
  • Proven experience in API and software abstraction design and/or software runtime development.
  • Experience in ideation, evaluation, and optimization of a research project
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong skills in C/C++ and GPU programming

Additional Experience Desired:

  • Deep knowledge of CPU, GPU and memory hardware architectures
  • Experience with the AMD ROCm software stack
  • Comfortable with low-level, assembly like programming

Academic Credentials:

  • PhD degree or equivalent accomplishments in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field
