Job Description

The role requires an enthusiastic, methodical individual reporting to the IPT Lead – Production Support for a unique position within the Military Business Organisation at Collins Aerospace, Wolverhampton to work within the OE manufacturing area for managing and resolving Failure and Problem investigations within a timely manner to the Company and Customer requirements.

Principal Accountabilities:

Problem Resolution

  • Monitoring of all issues related to in service use of equipment and timely implementation of any corrective actions required

  • Progression and resolution of FRACAS issues

  • Progression and quick resolution of production issues (hardware and test rig) to minimise impact to the monthly production schedule

  • Identification of root causes for production issues and implementation of engineering improvements where necessary, including identification and progression of Continuous Improvement activities

  • Lead diagnostic efforts with the end goals of automating the diagnosis and resolving the issues at the source

  • Generate or support failure reporting or non-compliance paperwork

  • Ensure ongoing technical support is provided for product operating reliability issues.

  • Act as a technical interface with internal and external customers

  • Quality & Triage including OER’s (returns)

  • Develop diagnostic procedures and Standard Work

Compliance

  • Adherence to the engineering processes and procedures

  • Engineering of the product to specification, ensuring that all technical requirements relating to specification compliance and product integrity are met (including statutory, legal and ethical requirements)

  • Understanding and application of deviation and configuration management and the implementation of change as part of improvement activities identified through corrective actions.

People / Communication

  • Act as point of contact between manufacturing and engineering teams

  • Provide training to manufacturing and / or engineering teams

  • Identify and implement efficiency improvements

  • Develop a strong and positive relationship with all internal / external customers and suppliers.

  • Meet all internal, regulatory and customer requirements

From time to time the successful candidate may be required by the Company to perform additional activities which are not included in the above principal accountabilities but are within the capabilities of the individual and where necessary training will be given.

Requirements:

  • Broad technical and intellectual capability, ability to effectively interface with a wide range of professionally qualified external / internal business disciplines

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Strong understanding of hydro-mechanical systems, electronics components basics, control systems and test equipment knowledge

  • Ability to understand test and troubleshoot complicated system interactions

  • Experience and interest in data visualisation techniques. Able to convey complex analyses with the most efficient and intuitive visual methods

  • Ability to work well with all company teams including Engineering, Manufacturing, Production Engineering, Quality Supply Chain and Programmes

  • Rapid learner who thrives in a fast-paced environment

  • Greater than 5 years’ experience in Aerospace engineering or equivalent

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering (with Mechanical Modules)

  • Experience of Business Applications such as CIMAGE, SAP and Teamcenter.

  • Excellent working knowledge MS office Applications

  • Able to read engineering drawings and schematics

  • Hands on practical experience required for fault diagnostics.  

  • Interpretation of mechanical drawings/hydraulic schematics
