Job Description

Our mission is to break down the barriers of today to release the potential of tomorrow. Join us today and release yours.

There are two things that we want to share with anyone considering joining us.

Firstly, we’ve got big ambitions for our colleagues and the future of the organisation. These include our vision that inclusion and accessibility drive every conversation we have and every decision we make. We want our workforce to fully represent the communities and customers we serve, because a diverse business is a better business. We value every colleague, their diversity and the contribution that they make. When we say you’re welcome at BT, we really mean it.

Secondly, the one thing the pandemic has taught us is that a lot of current and future colleagues, where and when possible, want to embrace hybrid working. Therefore, we are introducing smart working at BT. Smart working means having the flexibility to choose, as a team, how and where you work depending on your team’s deliverables and needs; when you are at your shared core location to connect with others and when not. It may not be for every role, and, as part of the recruitment process, you’ll have the chance to discuss smart working and how it might work for the job you are applying for.

About this role

As our Product Operations Lead, you will play a huge part in us achieving our ambitions to create a ‘World Class Product Team’ across our circa 150 person Product team.

Your remit and responsibility will be to manage, lead and help set strategic direction for capability initiatives, all focused on improving our ways of working and removing inefficiencies for our Product people. Your work will enable our people to spend more time building World Class experiences and less time working out how. You will report into our Digital Product Director and partner with our team of circa 25 Product Leads.

You will achieve this by leading a team responsible for identifying existing barriers, and equipping our Product team with the tools, processes, systems, services and guidance documentation to consistently deliver brilliant Products at scale.

You'll have the following responsibilities

• Coach and mentor your team and ensure they have everything they need to do their jobs effectively

Team Organisation

• Partner with HR and resourcing teams to optimise the recruitment, onboarding/offboarding processes and increase visibility externally of product team

• Define strategy for organisational structure, including headcount forecasting and 3rd party vendor management

• Accountable for ensuring the efficient and optimised operation of the Digital Product team, in conjunction with the rest of Consumer Digital.

Budgeting and Finances

• Partner with finance team to plan, forecast and provide ongoing management of + £20M finances and budgets

• Manage contracts for external providers by setting the scope of work, negotiating terms, and coordinating with the finance team

Product tooling & Ways of Working

• Management of licensing for Product tools, including procurement and vendor management

• Implement tools, processes and training to standardise best in class Product ways of working

• Embedding an OKR obsessed culture within the team, including how we set them in a standardised way across the teams

Practices & Methods

• Responsible for scaling our Product practise and ways of working across Consumer Digital and BT Group Digital.

• Centralised ownership and continuous improvement of best practice documentation, templates, methods and Playbook

Culture & Community

• You’ll be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with your peers across product, engineering and design and across other alliances

• Responsible for establishing and maintaining Product communities and knowledge sharing activities with counterparts across BT Group Digital Product teams

• Responsible for facilitating the story telling of Consumer Digital Product both internally and externally.

You'll have the following skills & experience

• Experience in defining, building & shipping Products that deliver significant business value

• Understanding of best in class Product ways of working, tools & processes

• Experience in driving operational efficiencies in a transformative way across areas of Product Management

• Leading teams – both in terms of line management and matrix
