Description

Role purpose: To provide technical and commercial expertise in support of the operation and maintenance of Vodafone’s submarine cable network.  Submarine cable projects have a typical value of $400 million and 99% of Vodafone’s international traffic is carried over submarine cables.

The role requires senior level participation in consortia, either as O&M Group Chair or representative, in order to establish the policies and procedures under which a cable system will be operated and repaired. The role also requires project management of: marine and terrestrial suppliers; external contractors; interface to system owners; landing station parties and regulatory agencies.

The role holder will be required to be part of a 4 person on-call rota for the repair of systems that Vodafone owns or manages.

 

Job Responsibility

Key accountabilities and decision ownership:

 
•    Coordinate and direct marine repair operations
•    Take on lead O&M positions within Cable Consortia
•    Negotiation of marine support contracts
•    Management of marine contractor and sub-contractors
•    On-board representation for repairs and other marine operations

•    Cable/route engineering

• Submarine Cable O&M, Marine aspects in particular

•    Cable laying operations
•    Communications, negotiation and  diplomacy within a Consortium environment
