We are the Azure Data and SQL Server part of the Cloud and AI organization. Working in the Azure Data and SQL Server team presents interesting challenges in technologies such as AI/machine learning, big data, cloud, and open source. We build reliable, highly scalable, and high performing distributed systems for data analytics on Azure, in customers datacenters and on the edge. Enterprise customers all over the world trust Microsoft’s data platform for mission critical systems in health care, finance, energy, scientific research, and beyond. SQL Server is the most widely used commercial database in the world. Azure data services lead the industry in cloud-based data and analytics.
We are looking for a senior thought leader and engineering manager with people management experience and a passion for data and analytics. Azure Arc is a multi-faceted strategy that spans many different teams within the Azure Data organization as well as broadly across Azure. This leader will lead one of the Azure Arc data engineering teams and work with the other Azure Arc leaders in other teams – Azure Stack, Azure IoT, Azure AI, Azure Backup, Azure Monitor, Azure Security, etc. - to bring it all together for customers.
As a leader in the organization, you will engage with and influence other senior leaders across Azure and SQL Server engineering, the Microsoft sales field, key ecosystem partners, business planning, and marketing as well as key decision makers within our customers. In this role, you will shape and define product capabilities and experiences by deeply engaging with product managers and customers as well as by using data to understand engagement and quality of experience. You will guide other engineers in delivering great product experiences through inception all the way through engaged customer usage. You will create and lead with clarity while bringing a strong bias for action. The opportunities to significantly impact the team, Azure, Microsoft, and the industry are practically limitless.
Responsibilities
Typical duties as a Principal Engineering Manager for this team:
Build and grow an engineering team through hiring and people engineering - career coaching, team building, and caring for the team
Work with customers, partners, and the PM team to define and deliver impactful capabilities for the Azure data services and SQL Server on Azure Arc
Drive user research, telemetry, and A/B testing to provide best in class data-driven insights
Work with customers and UX designers to design experiences that bring new levels of efficiency and security for all types of data professionals
Observe industry trends and chart a path forward to keep pace with and lead the industry in the fast-moving hybrid cloud competitive landscape Google Anthos and AWS Outposts present a competitive challenge in this fast-growing market
Work with engineering team leaders on planning and executing the product vision through multiple release cycles
Participate in deep technical design of features by engaging with engineering technical leaders and architects

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering or Mathematics or Physics or IT technical discipline
7+ years professional experience in software engineering in the field of enterprise software and services development
1+ year of people management experience in the software engineering field
Preferred Qualifications:
