The Azure Core Fundamentals engineering organization is responsible for building and operating business critical systems that support the day-to-day experience of thousands of Azure Core developers. We are seeking a customer-centric Principal Engineering Manager with a strong track record who is in search of an exciting environment to lead the engineering systems team. This team is focused on delighting Azure Core developers with intuitive, high performance, high reliability, and secure engineering infrastructure and workflows.

Azure is rapidly growing, and this is a unique opportunity to have significant impact on this critical part of Microsoft’s business while collaborating closely with infrastructure teams across Microsoft to solve company-wide challenges.

Responsibilities

• Management of a team of approximately 8 developers from senior to junior in experience
• Refine and improve the build pipeline to accommodate diverse teams and high scale
• Establish and drive key system and developer experience metrics
• Drive Azure Core developer workflow improvements across multiple platforms
• Mature team engineering practices
• Contribute to direction setting of the Azure engineering systems

Qualifications

Basic qualifications

• 7+ years of software development experience
• 2+ years of experience managing software developers
• Proficiency with modern software engineering tools including Git
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Solid debugging, testing, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Azure, Azure DevOps
• Experience with Windows and Linux
• Experience with C/C++, C#, PowerShell (or other scripting language) 
• Experience developing and operating engineering systems or distributed/large-scale services
• Experience with build engines (MSBuild, Ant, NAnt, etc) and build flow/pipelines
