Host Networking team powers one of the core infrastructures that Azure is built on. The team is responsible for designing, building and operating critical network infrastructure and services. At the core of the Azure Host Networking stack is a solid network virtualization and datapath system that we continuously innovate on to improve agility, reliability and cost effectiveness of our services.   

As Azure adoption explodes, we are continuously looking to improve our offerings, tools, and processes to offer more capacity, more scale and more agility. We are looking for a highly motivated, passionate and talented engineering manager to help build and grow the platform as we take on more and more mission critical and intensive workloads. You will have the chance to learn, understand and leverage a wide variety of technologies ranging from how data-centres work to building fault tolerant, highly scalable and performant components and services.  

Responsibilities

You will lead the team building critical, performant infrastructure that powers and brings up the Azure Networking Datapath stack. You will be responsible for the high quality and end to end delivery of the features Ã¢â‚¬â€œ from the design, project planning and execution, dependency closure with partners and telemetry/monitoring. You will work across multiple teams and will have opportunity to span depth as well as the breath of networking virtualization in Azure cloud. 

This is a SWE manager role with lots of executive visibility, deep technical impact, product innovation and culture role model with opportunity for advancement. The role involves application of distributed system fundamentals, systems experience, problem solving and growth mindset to create simple solutions to complex engineering problems. The job requires cross group collaborations, so you’ll need to love that kind of work and be proficient at creating and maintaining warm and productive working relationships with other teams. You will play a key role in mentoring and growing junior members of the team.

Qualifications

You must possess the following attributes:  

• 5+ year of experience on systems engineering 

• 10+ years of professional work experience, including 2+ years of managing software engineers 
• Demonstrated problem solving and debugging skills  
• Ability to engage in site-reliability engineering practices 
• A Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or related discipline, or equivalent relevant work experience  

  These attributes are preferred:   

• Experience is networking technologies – host networking, container networking and Software Defined networking  
• Experience with networking virtualization and stack, systems programming, systems design, DPDK/PMDK libraries is a plus 
• Ability of setting and driving towards measurable goals 
• Excellent collaboration skills with ability to develop key partnerships  
• Experience with Azure, AWS, GCP
