As the owners of the platform that runs such a diversity of applications, we need to guarantee QoS for our customers. Metrics like uptime/availability/reliability and service performance take on a new meaning at the scale we operate. Our customers want 5 9’s+ of availability, transparent maintenance & updates to their systems, resiliency of their workloads despite H/W and system failures that happen all the time in the datacentre, ability to deploy & dynamically scale large number of VMs/containers reliably. Ensuring the QoS at scale requires us to architect and build systems across all layers and we work on architectural improvements across the entire Azure Core stack (Azure Compute Manager, Azure Host OS and Host Agent, Compute Resource Provider, Azure Networking etc) to achieve the SLAs.

As the leader in this role for Azure Core, you will own the vision to build and operate world class E-E intelligent engineering systems & services which help achieve measurable improvements in the platform experience for our customers and to the quality of the platform itself. You will architect and build this engineering platform to scale with the growth and increasing complexity of the Azure Core platform. Achieving this vision is central to our goal of establishing Azure as the world’s computer for running customer workloads and retaining customer trust.
Every service large or small, infrastructure or customer exposed would be first deployed on infrastructure that is facilitated by services you build, and then deployed into production using the intelligent systems that you put in place, which would go with guarantees of customer SLA, availability and smarts of roll back/forward driven by policies. The systems would need to cater to some of the biggest services on the planet.
The position requires very strong customer obsession in understanding customer experience and driving efforts in the platform to improve this experience. It also requires a strong One Microsoft way of thinking in collaborating with multiple customer-facing and engineering teams across geos to deliver strong results.

Qualifications
Qualifications
12+ years of experience in commercial software development.
4+ years' minimum experience in a leadership position managing enterprise platform, product, or services teams
BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
Experience in building, shipping and operating reliable, distributed systems software
Ability to engage in site-reliability engineering practices. (Required)
Commitment to collaboration and teamwork and ability to deliver via influence.
Demonstrated problem solving and debugging skills.
Experience building RESTful services.
Experience developing software hosted in Azure, AWS, or other similar Cloud platforms (Strongly preferred)
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, open-source stacks such as Terraform/Ansible/Chef/Puppet (Strongly preferred)
