Do you love to contribute to Linux and other open source communities across the globe?  We are the Core OS Linux Group at Microsoft.  We recently open sourced our internal Microsoft Linux distribution, CBL-Mariner GitHub - Microsoft/CBL-Mariner: Linux OS for Azure 1P services and edge appliances which is now used by products across AKS-HCI, EFLOW, Azure Percept, WSLg etc. We’re growing, and we’re adding Principal developers to lead the technology direction as we deliver a wide range of functionality based on Linux into the Azure cloud and Edge platforms. 

In this role, you will both contribute to technical direction in how Azure first party services and edge appliances consume Linux but in addition contribute to Linux OS efforts ranging from virtualization stack to security in the opensource community. You will coordinate design and coding across multiple projects, partnering with internal teams in multiple geographies.  You will work closely with the broader Linux community, contributing code upstream.  And you will work closely with customers to fix problems encountered in using Linux in the Azure cloud and edge platforms.

You will be working on research and development in cutting edge accelerations and optimizations to power future public and private clouds. You will define and push the limits of innovative technologies -- working with the latest hardware, the largest servers, and even larger datacenters. Responsibilities

Job responsibilities:

• Lead the architecting, designing, developing, debugging, and delivering of innovative cloud and edge functionality using Linux 
• Drive key open-source initiatives within Microsoft in an open manner to contribute to Linux adoption both on Azure cloud and Edge.
• Ensure customer success by debugging and fixing complex issues they encounter with the Linux OS running in the Azure cloud and edge
• Provide technical direction for a team of 5 to 10 software engineers  

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• M.S. in Computer Science, or related work experience 
• 8+ years software development experience with deep technical expertise in these areas:  
• Deep design/coding/debugging in Linux both in kernel and user mode
• One or more datacenter-class technologies such as networking, storage, file systems, processor architectures, virtualization, etc. 
• Contributing to open-source projects, like the Linux kernel or use mode components like container, is a plus.
