Job Description

The Microsoft Platform Security team is looking for a learn-it-all engineer to join our team, and help create world class secure software and devices supporting the national security mission.

This role is part of the team responsible for securing Windows, used by billions of customers every day, along with Microsoft devices such as Xbox, HoloLens, and Surface. This team performs security design reviews, code reviews, and penetration testing on key features and devices to make sure they meet the highest possible security standards. In this role, you will drive security at scale across a range of products that support critical mission infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Candidates should have hands-on experience performing security assessments (code audits, writing fuzzers, finding creative ways to break assumptions) in a variety of software domains.  For this role, assessments span technologies including managed code (C#), web services, cloud infrastructure, and native code (C/C++).  We’re looking for candidates with a clear understanding of OS and cloud security fundamentals, solid computer science skills, and a passion for keeping Microsoft customers safe.

Qualifications

Primary requirements/responsibilities:

  • Lead and participate in security reviews to identify and mitigate risk in critical infrastructure including design reviews, code reviews, and fuzzing
  • Be the primary security contact for teams building new innovative products and technologies
  • Identify security vulnerabilities in a wide variety of key features such as network protocols, security features, cloud services, and devices
  • Leverage a broad and current understanding of security
  • 7 years of software engineering, such as programming or vulnerability research
  • Ability to learn new skills and operate in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Excellent cross group and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate the business need for security

The following additional experiences are favorable, but not requirements:

  • Public track record of relevant security research, especially around vulnerability discovery
  • Experience exploiting bugs and bypassing security mitigations
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows architecture
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes container orchestration

Background Check Requirements:

Applicants must have the ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of US Citizenship to meet federal government security requirements.
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This successful candidate to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • The successful candidate must have an active U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. Failure to maintain or obtain the appropriate U.S. Government clearance and/or customer screening requirements may result in employment action up to and including termination.
  • Clearance Verification: This position requires successful verification of the stated security clearance to meet federal government customer requirements. You will be asked to provide clearance verification information prior to an offer of employment.

Candidates selected for this position must comply with Federal Executive Order 14042 mandating that federal contractors and subcontractors receive the COVID-19 vaccine by being fully vaccinated before their date of hire, or work with Microsoft to receive an approved religious or medical accommodation.

Microsoft is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, ancestry, color, family or medical care leave, gender identity or expression, genetic information, marital status, medical condition, national origin, physical or mental disability, political affiliation, protected veteran status, race, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by applicable laws, regulations and ordinances.  We also consider qualified applicants regardless of criminal histories, consistent with legal requirements.
