About the job

Our team is a Design, Research, and Product team with the goal to explore emerging technologies and trends. We use our product development expertise to provide points of view and paths forward for executive leadership. Our area of focus includes acquisitions, the Knowledge and Information business area’s efforts around sustainability, and more.

Our effort is focused on addressing the global challenge of climate change. We work with other business areas, including Research, Policy, Communications, Marketing, Business, and Google’s Corporate Sustainability teams to enable our users and partners to accelerate the technological innovation and creation of tools that enable everyone to combat climate change.

As the Principal Designer, you will leverage Google’s reach and scale in combating climate change through the power of design strategy, practice, and advocacy. This is a critical role amongst a dedicated multidisciplinary group that also includes Product Managers, Business Analysts, and sustainability subject matter experts. In addition, you will work on a team to generate and synthesize insights around complex product and design problems, rationalize them into elegant and actionable solutions, and help gain the support of executive stakeholders while coordinating with partners across the company in prioritization and execution.

User experience is at the forefront of how we create intuitive, innovative, and beautiful products that people love. We strive to learn and understand our users’ needs, behaviors, and emotions to gather insights that inform product strategy and design. Our UX teams include designers, researchers, content strategists, and engineers who are passionate about quality, usability, and simplicity. We work on collaborative teams to solve complex challenges and craft experiences that highlight our products’ unique capabilities and personalities. Our work touches billions while exemplifying a key principle that is core to Google’s philosophy: “Focus on the user and all else will follow.”

Responsibilities

  • Provide creative and strategic direction to coordinate, amplify, and embolden Knowledge and Information’s myriad of efforts to promote ecological goals.
  • Develop and maintain Google’s voice in Sustainability across our products. Understand complex systems of ecology, technology, sociology, policy, and business to arrive at actionable means to achieve positive impact on matters of sustainability.
  • Build and manage an impactful team of Designers and design thinkers that turn our vision for sustainability into a clear and actionable path.
  • Compel executive leadership and partner teams as well as users to act in the best interest of our shared environment through expert design, storytelling, and thought leadership.
  • Work closely with cross-functional partners (e.g., Product Managers, Researchers, and subject matter experts) to envision and deliver actionable plans and measurable outcomes.
