Job Description

We are currently seeking Principal Advisors, Report Development to join our organisation to support the effective and efficient report development practice of the Inquiry.

The Principal Advisor role supports the effective and efficient reports development practice of the inquiry which includes the creation and maintenance of cohesive reporting frameworks, content architecture and the provision of ongoing guidance and support to reports development team and members of multidisciplinary project teams involved.

As the Principal Advisor, Report Development, some key areas of responsibility include the following:

  • Co-ordinating and managing assigned reports development projects
  • Demonstrate collaborative leadership across the organisation to contribute to ensuring 'one People Leadership organisation' to maximise multidisciplinary team performance
  • strategic input to the planning, execution and reports development work associated with the assigned multi-disciplined inquiry project work streams
  • Apply a Te Tiriti o Waitangi approach to the Royal Commission mahi
  • Support the GM Report Development with coaching, mentoring and supporting the professional development of Advisors and Senior Advisors
  • Collate or acquire information and data from relevant sources and identify key insights seen as high quality and practical
  • Build and maintain highly credible and values professional relationships and networks internally and externally
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the current and future needs of survivors and their whānau
  • Working collaboratively across the Royal Commission and with stakeholders to ensure analysis, advice and insights are informed by the full extent of work undertaken
  • Deliver (and lead others to deliver) drafts of interim reports/case studies or the final report for commissioners consideration and approval
  • Provide intellectual/thought leadership by bringing advice and ideas for your portfolio (discipline) leading achievement of these relevant goals and outcomes for the Royal Commission

Skills and experiences:

The key skills and experience we are looking for include (but not limited to) the following:

  • Experience within public service, strong understanding of the machinery of government and the independent role of the Royal Commission
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and relationship management
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience working in accordance with the Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles
  • Strong demonstrable experience in policy or applied research experience ideally related to issues and themes relevant to State, Faith-based settings, Māori, Pacific People's or Disabled People's care settings
  • Experience in large service/community organisations would be useful
  • Ideally have in-depth knowledge of Ministerial and Cabinet processes, statutory decision making and most importantly have strong problem-solving skills
  • Able to provide thought leadership and to influence outcomes at high level
