About usNorthpower is an electricity and fibre network provider for Whangarei and Kaipara, with more than 60,000 connected customers. We also provide contracting services to our partners – other network owners and operators across the North Island.

We have over 1,000 staff working together across 13 locations to keep the power on and the lights going for our customers.

Due to growth within our Hamilton Transmission team, we're now on the lookout for an experienced Power Technician to join our team as a Team Leader, working alongside the Technician Supervisor.

The roleIn this newly created role, you'll be sharing the workload with the Technician Supervisor and visiting work sites to complete audits. You will also

  • Provide training and development of the technicians and trainee technicians to help guide and mentor them during their journey to senior technicians
  • Assist the Technician Supervisor with tasks involved in the day to day running and delivery of works
  • Review the commissioning plans and work method statements as required
  • Assist senior technicians with the commissioning of new equipment and provide guidance
  • Carry out testing and commissioning of equipment and schemes

About youIdeally you'll be a team leader with high voltage substation experience or an experienced Power Technician keen to advance their career. You'll have proven experience in building effective teams, has the ability to organise and plan own workload while delivering positive outcomes without compromising health and safety. You will also possess:

  • Full clean Class 1 driver's licence
  • Current practising licence as an Electrician and EWRB registration
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working in a multi-cultural environment
  • A strategic thinker with the ability to solve problems and make decisions
  • Ability to motivate and influence others while demonstrating integrity and trust
  • Ability to deliver positive outcomes without compromising Health, Safety, Quality and the Environment (HSQE)
