About this role
Our Power Planners are the power infrastructure experts who utilise their electrical qualifications and knowledge to support property / building strategy planners alongside the proactive planning of power related activities and installations. They are the gateway for customer requests and ensure we have the space, infrastructure and power within our exchanges and property in order to meet ours and our customer’s needs. The planner’s role covers a variety of responsibilities from ensuring we have the means to connect equipment through gantries and runways, to completing records and ensuring that we consider Health and Safety at all stages of planning.
You'll have the following responsibilities
Due to the nature of the role and our industry this list is not exhaustive however covers the primarily accountabilities of the role:
Execute all required work (allocated and self-identified), considering H&S, despite the challenges and environment. Supporting a team of engineers / planners to prioritises work as required, entering accurate codes and quality notes on appropriate systems (e.g. inventory systems), that are meaningful, and which can be used onward by colleagues and customers
Utilise extensive expertise in planning, surveying and clerk of works activities, occasionally supervising and leading a small team during operations and activities. In addition to this the individual will demonstrate an extensive understanding of a variety of systems alongside H&S considerations when planning. Skill use will be dependent on patch requirements.
Support and challenge contractors to ensure that BT is receiving value for money in all activities
Utilise their extensive power and electrical knowledge to support colleagues and customers with advice, guidance and assistance as required. Additionally, manage electrical testing for designated locations ensuring faults and repaired and that the site is safe at all times
Drive own performance ensuring they are effectively contributing to team measures, taking ownership of these measures for given area. Required to ensure that mandatory compliance, regulatory, data and informational requirements are maintained and recorded
Ensure all work on equipment and planning is in accordance with documented procedures and practices as provided by BT and its suppliers; agreeing any changes with appropriate source
Fosters a Continuous Improvement (CI) approach to all work across the team, personally contributing to driving performance by engaging to generate ideas, taking ownership of improvements, reporting issues and demonstrating actions taken to progress these improvements to completion
Take full ownership of allocated exchange sites looking after all space and infrastructure planning
You'll have the following skills & experience
Must be able to fulfil the physical requirements of the role i.e. able to bend, stretch, kneel and crouch. Additionally, may be required to climb, work at floor and ceiling level inside buildings, tower structures and roadside infrastructure when surveying. May also be required to carry heavy equipment at times and must be able to recognise coloured wiring.
Skills:
Ability to manage and plan multiple tasks
Working knowledge of AutoCAD and CDM or similar
Task Supervisory / Team Leadership experience
Experience in managing contractors / stakeholder management
BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations Amendment 3
C&G 236 Part 1&2 or BTEC HNC / ONC (BTEC must be electrical engineering)
Electricity at Work Regulations
Must hold a Full Driving License
Preferred:
C&G 2330 level 2, C&G 2330 level 3, C&G 2365 level 2 diploma, C&G 2365 level 3 diploma
C&G 2391 Inspect & test, C&G 2395 PAT testing
