Power, Performance Modeling & Benchmarking

 

The Role:

AMD is looking for an MTS Engineer for the exciting role of power and performance lead. As part of an experienced engineering group with highly talented engineers, you will help model performance and power for upcoming AMD APUs, CPUs & dGPUs & contribute to defining product specifications.  You will also be involved in defining product bounding box and estimating its power and performance. 

 

The Person:

A successful candidate will employ proven solid power and performance knowledge, strong multi-functional communication, and well-honed organizational skills with logical thinking. A candidate must be self-motivated and possess the technical proficiency and interpersonal confidence to represent performance ideas technically clearly.

 

A self-starter with the ability to accomplish complex performance optimization independently and collaborate with others to resolve problems found. You should feel comfortable working in a lab environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for power and performance modeling & estimations
  • Familiar with impact of CPU frequency, memory, cache, IO to overall SoC power and performance data
  • Sensitivity analysis of different workloads on an SoC
  • Benchmarking APUs, CPUs & dGPU, including analysis with competition
  • Own Power and Performance analysis optimizations and product definition
  • Contribute to performance characterization and optimization
  • Responsible for analyzing any performance degradation, debug the cause & propose optimization solutions
  • Zero down on performance bottlenecks and propose solutions
  • Co-work with members across the globe & contributes to technical discussions & status updates
  • Share benchmark position of AMD products against competition

 

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Solid years of performance & optimization experience
  • Experience in writing scripts in Ruby, Perl, Python or Shell
  • Hands-on experience on
    1. Silicon/SOC Power and Performance estimations, and modeling
    2. Must have worked on creating and estimating using power and performance models
    3. Product definition from frequency, temperature, and power perspective
    4. Power/Voltage/Frequency/Temperature characterization
    5. Component level power measurements
    6. Different OS experience: Windows/Linux
    7. Understand power, frequency, voltage & temperature logs and make decisions on why performance results are met or not met (performance profiling)
  • Experience in benchmark sensitivity & competitive analysis
  • Understands power vs performance behavior with deeper understanding on SoC power rails
  • Deeper understanding of CPU pipeline, cache, memory, workload, and use-case analysis
  • Familiarity with common Windows & Linux Benchmark tools such as 3DMark11, PCMark, PassMark, CineBench, CoreMark, SPEC, DPDK, SPDK, FIO
  • Familiar with power measurement tools such as
    1. NIDAQ power measurement adapters
    2. Thermal chillers
  • Experience working in a multi-site environment and ability to travel as needed.

 

Academic Credentials:

  • Engineering degree in Electrical/Electronics/Computer Science
