Job Description

What you do at AMD changes everything

At AMD, we push the boundaries of what is possible.  We believe in changing the world for the better by driving innovation in high-performance computing, graphics, and visualization technologies – building blocks for gaming, immersive platforms, and the data center.

Developing great technology takes more than talent: it takes amazing people who understand collaboration, respect, and who will go the “extra mile” to achieve unthinkable results.  It takes people who have the passion and desire to disrupt the status quo, push boundaries, deliver innovation, and change the world.   If you have this type of passion, we invite you to take a look at the opportunities available to come join our team.

Experienced Design Verification Engineer

The role:

Verify AMD’s next-generation IP subsystem of computer, graphics, and visualization SoCs. Our team owns the design and verification for System Management Unit (SMU) - at unit level. We are responsible for high-quality delivery throughout the engineering phases. We develop and deploy strategies and flows for verifying multiple derivative designs based on a common CPU/Network-on-chip/Memory-Subsystem platform. We are a co-verification (hardware and software) team passionate about the HW subsystem and the bootcode.

The person:

What do we look for? If you demonstrate precision and talents in hardware/firmware design, analysis, and debugging, then you will fit in with this team. Bring your proven understanding of processors and digital circuits, an understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts and strong written and verbal communication skills. Together we will take on some of SoC Verification’s greatest challenges and make an impact on wide range compute applications, from the desktop, laptop, and server computing to video game consoles to the most powerful supercomputers in the world!

Key responsibilities:

  • Development of verification plans that identify and prioritize verification requirements based on architecture, design, and firmware specification documents
  • Develop System Verilog/UVM test benches for the functional verification and HW/SW Co-verification.
  • Design and implementation of stimulus, checking and functional coverage components of testbenches and test cases using UVM-System Verilog and/or C to verify the requirements
  • Debug functional errors in the RTL model and Firmware using simulation and debug tools with an in-depth understanding of the architecture and RTL design of the processors/IPs.
  • Triage of regressions, debug of simulations, analysis of coverage, and working with Design, Verification, and other teams to resolve issues and achieve verification closure

Preferred experience:

  • Proven experience with constrained-random, coverage-driven automated verification using module-to-system level reuse methodology (e.g. UVM, OVM, VMM, eRM), using hardware verification languages such as SystemVerilog , Vera, or e
  • Experience using scripting (Ruby, Perl, Python and Makefile) to automate tool flows and report generation
  • Experience in both hardware verification and software verification - using RTL/FPGA/Emulation platforms would be a plus
  • Experience with bus protocols such as AXI or AHB
  • Experience verifying any of embedded CPU-Subsystems, AMBA Bus protocols, PCIe, and Network-on-Chip
  • Proficiency in C/C++ programming
  • Debug experience with function/performance bugs of graphics, APU, and server chips
  • Familiar with Linux Environment (including shell scripting and Linux GNU tools)
  • Minimum of BS + 10 years or MS + 8 years or PhD + 1 year plus mastery of principles and methods of design verification engineering

Academic credentials:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science -- or possibly a related field
  • Master's Degree preferred

  • AMD is a government contractor and subcontractor. As required by Executive Order, our US employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee’s work location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law. If selected, you will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and submit documentation of proof of vaccination by December 8, 2021.
