Platform Performance Engineer

 

The Role:

AMD server team is looking for a Linux or Microsoft Windows performance engineer to optimize the power and performance of our new EPYC server line.  Our EPYC architecture is a game changer for both client and server platforms.  This candidate will be part of a fast-growing team developing new core competencies for the AMD server group.

 

The Person:

We are looking for someone with a deep background in Linux or Microsoft Windows operating systems in a server environment. Candidate must be a fast learner and have a passion for teaching others.

 

Responsibilities

  • Drive AMD platforms to achieve the best performance in compute and I/O
  • Analyzing benchmarks and performance characteristics
  • Develop the overall team understanding of performance related to tools, techniques, and analysis to measure and improve performance
  • Driver development or testing experience on Linux or Windows PCIe based endpoints
  • Work closely with operating system team to uncover new techniques for accelerating server-based applications
  • Research trade-offs for our server architecture, especially as related to the memory hierarchy, storage systems, scheduling, and I/O devices
  • Work closely with AMD silicon designers to identify architectural changes / optimizations necessary to get improve overall system performance
  • Drive changes to memory, storage systems, I/O systems, file systems and operating system scheduling that reduce power requirements while improving performance.
     

     

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience in system architecture and performance analysis
  • Strong understanding of CPU and computer system architecture
  • Hands-on experience tuning the Linux or Windows operating systems
  • Solid understanding of Linux or Windows performance analysis tools and methods
  • Experience in creating benchmarks or other performance test tools
  • Must be highly motivated with a strong desire to learn
  • Track record of innovation and creativity in problem-solving
     

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with GPU accelerator
  • Understanding of IO subsystem architecture is strongly preferred
  • Performance testing automation experience

 

Academic Credentials:

  • BS or MS (MS preferred) in computer architecture, computer science, computer engineering or related field.
