Our city has character, charm and a laidback atmosphere. There's outstanding nature reserves, Ōreti Beach, the Waihōpai River, a lively restaurant scene and a sensible gridded layout with wide streets and a 10-minute drive to work.

We are in a chapter of immense growth, building a vibrant city centre and reinvigorating our culture and spaces, and this is an exciting time to join a Council that is focused on the future of our people and our city.

In this position, you will be part of part of our responsive and supportive resource management planning team, assisting our Council to meet its resource management obligations.

This is a great stepping stone for those interested in working in the field of planning..

The Planning Technician is responsible for a variety of tasks. These include the implementation of the Resource Management Act through the assessment of development proposals against the provisions of the District Plan.

They will assist the Planning team by working with the public, internal staff and consultants to provide a high standard of customer service.

The successful candidate will have a keen interest in working with people to promote positive environmental outcomes within a District Council setting.

They will have strong communication skills and be able to think on their feet. While it is desirable that the successful applicant have a relevant tertiary qualification and / or experience in a resource management related field, applications from those wanting to work towards a future in this field will be considered.

At Invercargill City Council we pride ourselves on our values - positivity, respect, responsibility and above and beyond.

Finding the right fit for our team is really important to us and we work hard to provide an environment reflective of these values.

For more information please see the full job description or contact the Invercargill City Council on (03) 211 1777.

With the current border and quarantine restrictions in place, successful applicants must be legally entitled to live and work in New Zealand.

While all applications will be reviewed, first priority will be given to those applicants who are currently residing in New Zealand.
