Job Description

Pensions Accountant 

This role is responsible for the accounting of one of the UK’s largest DB pension schemes with £8bn assets spread across c.40 investment mandates.

This includes the entry of all transactions, the maintenance of accounting records as well as the application of primary controls on investments, cash, benefits and other expenditure items.  You prepare the quarterly management accounts and draft the annual financial statements for the scheme.

In detail you monitor balances in the bank current accounts, arrange sterling and euro transfers of monies to and from investment managers and ensure daily bank reconciliations. On a monthly basis you provide balances on income tax, investments, contributions, VAT account and any other debtor / creditor accounts and prepare finance reports for the scheme. You prepare quarterly VAT returns and annual statutory accounts.

Your responsibility also includes further monthly tasks such as the reconciliations of cash movements and the reconciliation of Investment Managers' reports with the respective investment account balances. You ensure the monthly agreement of intercompany balances and prepare the monthly cashflow forecast for the scheme’s Investment Committee.

Finally you support the quarterly forecast and annual budget process for the scheme and provide input to the annual financial audit process.

Qualifications

  • Professional finance qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA).
  • Proven financial accounting experience.
  • Strong analytical mindset.
  • Broad understanding of Taxation issues and ability to undertake calculations.
  • Advanced knowledge of SAP (Version SAP Business One preferred).
  • Advanced MS-Office skills esp. MS-Excel
