Job Description

The Opportunity

A pivotal opportunity has become available to join the Independent Nuclear Assurance team as a Nuclear Safety Inspector at Sizewell B Power Station. We need you to provide independent assessments of Company compliance in regards to nuclear, radiological and industrial safety as well as security, health and environmental obligations.

The role will expose you to the entire breadth of station activities, enabling you to gain experience in a huge array of areas and opening opportunities for your future career development. Previous Nuclear Operations experience will be key to your success, ensuring you have the knowledge necessary to perform at an effective level in your team. You’ll need to have strength in your abilities to be respected by your peers, playing a crucial part in upholding the strong reputation of INA as a leader in the field of internal regulation and challenge.

The Role

As INA Nuclear Safety Inspector, you’ll carry out daily independent assessments of the status of nuclear safety on Sizewell B Power Station, to include on-site inspections. You’ll carry out reviews and data analysis to identify shortfalls and adverse nuclear assurance trends, consequently putting in place plans for the required improvements. Using independent sources to challenge the station’s nuclear safety performance, you’ll ensure strength in depth is optimised and the station remains compliant with its legal obligations.

Key to succeeding in the role will be your strong written and oral communication skills, feeding into your ability to build relationships across the station and influence change where needed. It may therefore be helpful to have recent senior level experience of implementing, advising or regulating SSHE arrangements.

Training will be provided for the role through a formal qualification and mentoring process.

The Skills

Below are the key skills, experience and knowledge bases that you will need to demonstrate:

  • HNC (or equivalent) educated, in a science or engineering biased subject. Membership of a relevant professional body would be beneficial
  • Nuclear operations experience (possibly being a current or previous DAP)
  • Preferably a track record of implementing, advising or regulating SSHE arrangements within the nuclear, or other engineering orientated and highly regulated, industry (including defence)
  • An ability to think ‘outside of the box’ to identify trends, behaviours and insights that could be effective at helping improve SSHE performance
  • Good analytical skills to support critical reviews of performance
  • The character to deliver difficult messages under potentially challenging situations
  • proven track record of liaising with external SSHE regulators would be an advantage
