Job Description

As a Network Security Engineer, you will be required to build, maintain and support key network security technologies as part of the operational and project activities within the Security Engineering Team.  This role will focus on network security technologies, such as DDoS mitigation, IPS/IDS, advanced network security controls, next generation firewalls and network and traffic monitoring.  As a security engineer, you will also be working closely with the IP engineering and IP operations teams, as well as the wider security business unit.           

How will I add value in this role?

You’ll be responsible for implementation of the security vision within the wider technology team, working as part of a multi-disciplined security engineering team and the larger security function to implement appropriate security policy, process and technology.

You will build, support and enhance TalkTalk’s network-based security controls in-line with the wider defined security strategy Develop relationships with key business and technology stakeholders in order to influence and drive the security agenda in TalkTalk. 

As part of this, you will ensure Network security is included at the initiation and design of projects and infrastructure designs. Your attention to detail will be key to the creation and maintenance of solution and technology documentation as well as ensuring they are reviewed and adhered to. You will provide support and guidance to the TalkTalk NOC, SOC and Operations Teams and work with the infrastructure and network design teams to test and deploy security-based solutions and capabilities.

The position requires a positive ‘can-do’ attitude and contributes to an energetic and motivated team environment, actively seeking new practice and thinking within the network security industry. A focus on the customer to ensure solutions remain true to the objective of delivering great service is essential to the success of the team.

Out of hours and on call duties will be required as determined by the requirements of the business.

About you

You will have a strong background in Security and understanding of security best practices and understand how security impacts within a large and complex telco-grade network. You will have an expert understanding of security technologies e.g. NGFW (New Generation Firewall), DDoS, Netflow, WAF etc.). You will be able to demonstrate a high degree of network expertise, holding network qualifications (e.g. CCNP/JNCIP). You’ll possess a good understanding of centralized network authentication platforms e.g. Radius, TACACS, LDAP, Diameter etc.

Prior telco knowledge and expertise would be advantageous but not essential and ideally you will be degree level educated and/or hold security qualifications (e.g. CISSP, CISM etc). Some exposure with OWASP and similar standards would be beneficial. Experience in using mixed cloud on premise and off premise infrastructure would also be advantageous. The ability to obtain & hold security clearance may be required.
