What you do at AMD changes everything

At AMD, we push the boundaries of what is possible.  We believe in changing the world for the better by driving innovation in high-performance computing, graphics, and visualization technologies – building blocks for gaming, immersive platforms, and the data center.

Developing great technology takes more than talent: it takes amazing people who understand collaboration, respect, and who will go the “extra mile” to achieve unthinkable results.  It takes people who have the passion and desire to disrupt the status quo, push boundaries, deliver innovation, and change the world.   If you have this type of passion, we invite you to take a look at the opportunities available to come join our team.

AMD Introduction:

If you have a passion for excellence and a drive to achieve, you belong at AMD. Our employees work hard, have fun, and thrive on success. We meet the challenges of an evolving marketplace by staying true to our corporate values, including an unwavering respect for individuals and a focus on retaining superior employees.

The primary role of this position is:

Plan, debug, and manage manufacturing and characterization test programs for next-generation Enterprise AMD products using System Level Test (SLT) platforms. Debug test infrastructure issues including test HW, test SW, diagnostics, and device-specific IP. SLT Engineering ensures overall compatibility, compliance, and test coverage of microprocessors from initial bring-up through product qualification and high-volume manufacturing by developing product specific test hardware, software, and diagnostics.

Other responsibilities within SLT may include:

Integrating and releasing continuous improvements to test program content, quality, and efficiency

Supporting all aspects of new product bring-up, including understanding and characterizing product and test point margin as appropriate

Debugging issues, weak points, or potential improvement areas related to any portion of the SLT test, from firmware to BIOS to line-item-specific test program coding details

Developing, driving, and/or supporting SLT yield improvement plans based on Pareto reviews, helping to drive real fails upstream and eliminating false fails, assessing and escalating major issues as needed

Supporting AMD-specific SLT standardization and test quality requirements

Leading and supporting multi-disciplinary teams involving Design, Diagnostics, Manufacturing, and/or other Engineering teams to resolve issues related to the product, including reliability, debug, and System Level Test activities.

Continuously improving internal HW and software tools used to generate team results.

Qualifications:

Experience and education: Engineer candidates will have a B.S. or higher in Engineering/Physics (EE/EECS/Computer Engineering preferred) and a minimum of ~8-10 years of direct experience working on platform and/or system-level test of products like CPUs, GPUs or high-performance compute solutions.

Required skills:

Prior coursework or direct experience related to Computer Science, Software Engineering, Digital Logic, Circuit Theory, and/or Computer Architecture.

Programming capability: C++, Java, C, C# preferred

Scripting capability: Python, Perl, shell script, or similar preferred

Knowledge of Lean, XP, AGILE, Scrum, or Kanban processes & values

Clear understanding of statistical analysis and Pareto-based analysis

Familiarity with building a computer with required components (MB/cards/etc.)

Proficiency in Linux/Unix and/or Windows OS

Willingness to work hands-on as a team member in a lab environment

Strong communication skills and ability to work with geographically-dispersed teams overseas.

Preferred Skills:

Experience in silicon debug using customized diagnostics and OS’s on a cell/bench/System Level Test platform

OS Experience: Experience with Linux or Unix OS

Experience with revision control (GIT, SVN, CVS, or similar)

Low-level software development experience (Assembly, BIOS)

Experience with PC HW debug including networking, storage, and thermal control

Strong communication, collaboration and team work skills.

System level diags/test definition/generation/selection/execution & data analysis.
