What’s the role about?
We have an exciting opportunity for a Tailoring Designer to join our menswear design team, reporting to the Design Category Lead. Responsible for designing and developing seasonal ranges, delivering original, relevant, customer-centric and distinct best in class own brand products and delivering planned growth.
What you’ll be doing
Menswear tailoring designer with a focus on suits, tailored separates, outerwear, shirts and accessories. You will be working collaboratively with the other designers in the studio and with the buying, merchandising and technology teams to ensure you differentiate your ranges while keeping within the DNA of John Lewis. You will take past sales into account and look for innovative ways to drive new trends throughout the range.
You will research thoroughly in order to drive the direction of men’s tailoring for John Lewis by setting out seasonal trend boards and colour palettes, have excellent illustrator and cad skills, whilst being proficient in photoshop and google docs and slides.

What you’ll have
Organisational strategy, Task Prioritization, Stakeholder Management, Empathy, Active Listening, Interpersonal Sensitivity, Coaching.
Building trusting relationships with designers, buyers, merchandisers and technologists.
Ability to create detailed factory brief sheets using illustrator Cads and annotations through PDFs and/or google sheets.
Great understanding of the Adobe Creative Suite, including illustrator and photoshop.
Have an excellent understanding of tailoring fabric to be able to develop unique and commercial cloth with european and far east fabric mills.
An expert in fittings and confident in following through styles, from sketch to production.
Delivering designs on time within the seasonal critical path.
