Job Description

QIC currently has a newly created opportunity for a Manager, Private Markets Risk to join our Risk Management Group in Brisbane. This role has come about due to growth across the business and will be providing advice and risk management solutions across our Infrastructure, Real Estate, Private Debt and Private Capital groups (Private Markets) in Australia, the US and the UK.

The Risk Management Group forms an integral part of QIC's broader governance arrangements, and its purpose is to deliver confidence in QIC Board and Executive decisions and client outcomes by providing effective, high quality risk management and assurance.

This role will see you working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders on a number of matters including intricate and exciting acquisitions and divestments (in infrastructure assets, private debt investments and real estate), fund management activities and on asset management activities across our existing portfolio. Reporting into the Head of Private Markets Risk, you will be integral in providing constructive advice, challenging our investment teams, and working together to effectively identify, analyse and manage their business' investment, strategic, and emerging risks.

Role accountabilities also include (but are not limited to):

  • Review relevant investment recommendations (e.g., infrastructure equity and/or private debt) generated by the Private Markets teams globally and highlight risks associated with investing.
  • Monitor and escalate risks generated by private markets investment teams in their investment processes.
  • Deliver high quality risk management advice, including constructively challenging the investment teams to enhance their risk practices.
  • Oversee investment valuations across the Private Markets teams in accordance with QIC's Investment Valuations Policy.
  • Manage and undertake real asset risk reviews conducted on assets held within the Private Markets investment teams.
  • Effectively manage investment-related Conflicts of Interest.
  • Review and update of relevant investment policies, standards, and guidelines to support a framework tailored to QIC and client requirements.
  • Ensure investment compliance across the Private Markets investment teams is monitored and adhered to.
  • Manage Analysts and Senior Analysts within the Private Markets Risk team as required.

Key requirements and experience:

  • Degree qualified in relevant field (e.g., Maths, Business, Finance, Economics, Law).
  • An investment background in Private Debt (credit risk), Infrastructure (equity) or broader Private Markets. M&A experience also desirable.
  • The ability to identify, analyse and proactively resolve problems that impact our investments in private markets.
  • Highly personable with the ability to make informed decisions and influence others.
