An exciting opportunity for you to implement our vision of an 'Admin Data First' environment for Stats NZ.  This role will be the lead for NZ's 'Big Data' Collection Team.  It will be working with a highly driven, supportive, and experienced Data Ingestion Team who are ready for the leadership and change needed to make our vision a reality.

Mō te tūnga | The role

In this newly created permanent role as Manager - Data Ingestion, you will report to the General Manager - Collection Operations and work within a dynamic and supportive Senior Leadership team.

Your role is to develop the team and prepare it to take a lead across Stats NZ for ingestion of large external data sources into the organisation.  Initially this will mean consolidating the many and various data entry points which currently exist into a standardised approach and methodology.  Your team of expert data wranglers, relationship managers, and statistical and data technicians will become the focus point for all data ingestion across Stats NZ.  Once this has been achieved you will be at the forefront of growing Stats NZ's access to large new sources of data and managing the day to day work for the data streams that are already in place.

Admin Data First is one of Stats NZ's strategic priorities.  As a key member of staff operating in this space you will be part of a wider Stats NZ team which is focused on significant development and growth in this area over the next 3-5 years.  You will have a key role as the lead for Data Ingestion, but you will need to work closely with other areas of the organisation to ensure that the data can be properly processed, secured, managed and disseminated to ensure that it is usable and of high value to our statistics teams.

As a people motivator and coach, you will use your strong leadership experience and coaching skills to support your team.  Forming and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders will also be a critical part of this role.
You will be joining a diverse leadership team during an exciting period of change where we are refocusing Collection Operations on the requirements of the future, and you will have a significant part to play in this important work.

With a balance of leadership, soft skills and technical knowledge, this role would suit someone who is adaptable, solutions focused and strives to find and deliver improvements to ways of workings.  You will be highly collaborative and enjoy being part of a high performing leadership team.  You will be comfortable leading and supporting a team through change. Ideally you would have some or all of the below:

•    Proven experience (2-5 years) in people leadership
•    Proven experience working and leading in a 'big data' environment
•    Ability to create and empower high performing teams that reach their potential and deliver great service
•    Proven experience working in a service delivery environment
•    Experience working in a continuous improvement/change environment
•    Understanding of project management principles and processes
•    Understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi's relevance to a role as a public servant
•    Knowledge or ability to build knowledge in te ao MaÌ„ori
•    Experience in developing and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships
•    A relevant tertiary qualification and/or comparable relevant experience
