The Science Unit is a world leader in science programming. We produce a wide range of original titles for the BBC, Channel 4 and other platforms such as Netflix, PBS & YouTube as well as digital & branded content. This includes landmark series such as ‘The Planets’ & ‘Universe’, Factual drama, ‘8 Days: To The Moon and Back’ and reputational titles such as ‘Greta Thunberg: A Year to Change the World’ and ‘Extinction: The Facts’.
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Line Producer to join our dynamic and supportive Production Management team at an exciting and busy time. You will lead and develop a diverse team of Production Management staff, drive change and continuous improvement whilst working to the strategic aims of the Science Unit.
Role Responsibility
Partnering with the Series Producer/Showrunner;
- You will demonstrate excellent leadership skills and be comfortable working at a high level.
- You need to be capable of challenging and influencing key decision not just managing decisions that are made.
- You will bring a wealth of experience at a senior Production Management level; our teams look to the Line Producer to help drive productions whilst pushing the boundaries of new content to the limit.
- You will be adept at creating a positive working environment and at communicating to all levels with clarity.
- You will work in partnership with senior editorial colleagues, to deliver the very best content to a global audience.
- You need to be forward thinking with a positive outlook and demonstrate resilience in challenging situations.
The Ideal Candidate
- You will have the ability to work strategically, using decision-making skills & advocating different ways of thinking & guiding new ways of working. You will be expected to demonstrate strong leadership skills for your production colleagues.
- Experience in managing UK & international filming to include management of crews possibly in remote locations. To include dealing with numerous agencies including fixers, embassies, and other foreign agencies.
- Proven ability to juggle multiple projects/programmes simultaneously; driving progress and ensuring deadlines are met and priorities clearly communicated. Providing reschedule & budget options as required.
- A proven track record of working with broad range of external stakeholders.
- Demonstrable experienced in leading contract negotiations and dealing with complex insurance and business affairs issues.
- Confidence in large budget management. Adjusting forecasts and predicted spend, negotiating unusual/one off deals where necessary.
- Driving savings, efficiencies and continually reviewing working practices to ensure best practice and on-screen value for money.
- Demonstrable experience in the day-to-day management of production staff, undertaking responsibility for their recruitment, appraisals and training.
- Extensive management of large production teams and crews.
- Excellent working relationships with suppliers in the outside broadcast market and wider industry.
- A sound understanding of health and safety procedures.
