The role will focus on acquired content work, but it is anticipated that the successful candidate will from time to time have the opportunity to experience a wide range of content work (such as wholesale distribution, commissioning and sports rights licensing), assisting with matters across the wider Content and Commercial team.

What you’ll do:

• Drafting of commercial contracts
• Assisting senior lawyers on larger, strategically important deals
• Managing lower-value deals
• Advising on legal and commercial risks, potential impacts and proposing solutions
• Reviewing, analysing and summarising legal and commercial documentation
• Presenting complex legal concepts in a manner that is easy to understand and aids decision making
• Inputting into legal precedent agreements
• Auditing contracts and summarising conclusions for the business
• Managing discrete projects which impact the business areas which the team supports
• Building effective relationships with colleagues within the Legal Department and the wider business

What you’ll bring:

• A qualified solicitor
• Experience in general commercial contracts
• Awareness of the television products that are available on the market (e.g. Sky, Virgin Media, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+)
• Top quality drafting skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Ability to review and analyse contracts/ other commercial documents and summarise key issues
• Ability to see the commercial impact of legal issues

Team Overview

The Acquired Content team advises on a wide range of legal work, including:

• drafting and negotiating agreements for the acquisition of programming for Sky’s entertainment channels, across all genres.
• advising the entertainment business on all issues relating to the acquisition of programming including legal, business affairs and strategic issues.
• advising on rights issues in relation to the launch of new products and services.

The team currently comprises 1 Head Counsel, 4 Senior Legal Counsel, 4 Legal Counsel and 1 trainee on secondment.

Acquired Content is one of 3 divisions which together form the Content & Commercial legal team, this team is headed by Pam Dalton, a Director of Legal.
