On the E20 Programme we’re rebuilding and developing the exterior filming sets for EastEnders and also improving the infrastructure at BBC Elstree Centre - an investment we’re really excited about. Our current external film set for EastEnders was designed to be used for two years. Thirty six years later it is now at the end of its life and our E20 Programme was set up to address these challenges. This is a career defining opportunity to deliver improvements for EastEnders, a key BBC brand, with an average all screen audience of 5.3m in 2020. It is consistently amongst the biggest titles on iPlayer with around 1m requests per week and was the top performing soap on TV for 16-34s in 2020.

Our programme team includes people across many different specialisms including production design, building construction and scenic artists – and as our Lead Project Manager you’ll be leading this diverse team and reporting to senior stakeholders within the BBC.

The programme is based in the heart of production at the BBC television studios at Elstree, an easy commute from central London with good transport connections.

Role Responsibility

The Back Lot Lead Project Manager role is a senior role and is integral to the success of the E20 Programme as the role holder is responsible for delivering this final project to improve external filming options for EastEnders within Elstree Centre.

The project is unusual as it sits at the intersection of construction and film/tv set design. The role consequently involves leading and managing the design & construction of the Back Lot, the ageing of the built out structures to make them look realistic on camera, as well as overseeing the successful handover to the users.

The Ideal Candidate

• A recognised project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, APMQ, MSP).
• Experience of managing the entire lifecycle of a construction project from design, through to delivery and handover.
• Expert knowledge of the project lifecycle including its products, techniques, appropriate methodologies and techniques for delivery.
• Demonstrable track record of successful project delivery (including leading teams, budgeting, planning, quality management, problem solving, reporting, managing risk).
• Confidence in effectively communicating and reaching agreement with busy stakeholders, navigating ambiguous, changeable, and complex environments to achieve desired outcomes
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and procedures in areas including procurement, construction contract management, environment, and health & safety
• Microsoft Office software skills and experience to analyse data and provide meaningful updates for different audiences
• Experience in developing business cases and supporting delivery plans.
