About the Department

The Department for Child Protection (DCP) plays a key role in the protection of children, young people and their families within South Australia. The department provides support to vulnerable children and young people to be safe, strong and connected.

About the Opportunity

The Strategy, Partnerships and Reform directorate currently have an exciting opportunity to join their team as a Lead Disability Consultant on a short term contract until 3 February 2023.

In the role of Lead Disability Consultant you will be responsible for leading and coordinating the Disability Support Service across DCP service streams, ensuring that the goals and objectives of the Regional Disability Team are met. You will also manage the implementation of support services to DCP staff which ensures the smooth access for client’s to National Disability Insurance Scheme, including early intervention and funded plans.

This is an exciting opportunity to show your clinical skills by providing leadership, support and supervision to team members. You will also actively build relationships with key stakeholders to promote DCP clients’ access to NDIS services and plans to ensure that they receive high quality disability services, and ensure that the most complex cases are managed successfully.

About You

If you have exceptional interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate clearly on complex issues with key stakeholders including people from diverse professional backgrounds in the government, non-government and not for profit organisations, then this may be the role for you.

If you have experience utilizing your clinical reasoning skills and have advanced problem solving skills to provide direction for complex situations, using your knowledge if the NDIS, the specialist disability service system and best practice disability service delivery then we would encourage you to apply.

The successful applicant needs an ability to analyse and integrate data to implement creative solutions and implement strategies that minimise risk and to apply culturally sensitive child protection practice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and community from culturally and linguistically diverse background.

Essential Qualifications: An appropriate degree or equivalent qualification in either Social Work, Psychology, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology or Developmental Education which entitles registration or membership with the relevant board or association. All requirements to maintain registration or membership must be fulfilled.

Persons of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, who have the appropriate background and skills but do not have the essential qualification, may apply for and be engaged/assigned to the role of Social Worker and will be entitled to apply for any Allied Health Professional roles requiring a qualification in Social Work within the Department for Child Protection (DCP).

People of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent and/or those who have a disability are strongly encouraged to apply.

Service delivery roles within DCP may be governed by one (or more) of the Emergency Management Directions issued by the Commissioner of Police in November 2021. To be employed in such a role that is considered to be in scope, you will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 with a TGA approved vaccine and provide proof of vaccination status prior to being considered for the role.
