About the Role

This new role, Kaioranga Hauora Māori, will provide cultural assessment / action plan and interventions which will be developed in partnership with tangata whaiora and their whanau that is recovery focused and promotes good health and wellness.

The Kaioranga Hauora Māori will work in partnership with other Te Korowai Hou Ora team members and other Southern DHB MHAID staff.

Reporting directly to the relevant MHAID Charge Nurse / Unit Manager in their place of work for the day to day activities and responsibilities you will also have cultural oversight of services provided by the Kaihautū Oranga Hinengaro.

The position is based in Invercargill, but is part of a team that covers the Southland region and therefore requires flexibility to travel and stay overnight as needed.

You will require a full New Zealand driver’s licence.

About You

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with knowledge of tikanga Māori and a proficient / learning speaker of Te Reo Māori to join our team of Te Korowai Hou Ora.

Experience working within the mental health addictions and intellectual disability sector is essential along with evidence of fostering strong working relationships within the local Māori community and wider health sector.

You will demonstrate your success in working independently and / or as part of a team.

About the Team

Te Korowai Hou Ora is the secondary care Kaupapa Māori Mental Health Service based at Southland Hospital, Invercargill and under the Southern DHB Mental Health Addictions and Intellectual Disability Directorate.

Te Korowai Hou Ora service comprises of Registered Nurses, Kaioranga Hauora Māori / Cultural Workers and Kaumatua who provides clinical and cultural expertise to support tangata whaiora and whānau who experience moderate to severe mental illness.
