Role Responsibility

No two days will be the same in this role, and you will be expected to be across all of BBC Scotland News’ output. It really is the heart of the news operation working on the Commissioning team and while this role is primarily based in the newsroom in PQ in Glasgow, as a journalist we know that sometimes you’ll want to get on your feet and get out on a story and there’s no doubt our output will need you to do this occasionally.

You need to be editorially confident as you’ll be working with Editors, Correspondents, Producers, Reporters, Technical and Resourcing teams every day and you’ll be part of the team which manages and commissions Original Journalism pitches.

We would love you to be super-organised and super-creative which we know is hard, but this is a role that needs both these skills.

You will be expected to work diligently, sometimes autonomously and be a champion for diversity when it comes to reaching opportunity audiences.

The Ideal Candidate

Experience working in a busy multi-platform news operation as a journalist who has successfully had stories commissioned on a regular basis.

Exceptional knowledge of the digital and social media landscape.

Experience of writing briefs, working to deadlines in a sometimes high pressured environment and running a diary with exceptional attention to detail and news judgement.

The ability to edit audio and video, as well as write clear, concise and legally sound copy.

Experience of using your eye for data to influence how stories reach under-served audiences.

A passion for making Diversity and Inclusion a key part of what you do.
