Are you passionate about the buzz of live radio? Do you want to work closely with talented journalists, producers and presenters to tell the stories that matter to local people? Do you have the creativity and ambition to give those stories exciting treatments? BBC Radio Berkshire broadcasts to a diverse area of almost 1 million people in urban centres like Reading and Slough, historic Windsor and rural West Berkshire. We’re looking for inspiring journalists and storytellers who are passionate about connecting with local communities.
Generating ideas is a key part of the role. You’ll be responsible for developing ambitious content for our programmes and news bulletins. You’ll keep our content relevant and relatable and you’ll be excited by the opportunity to use a wide variety of production techniques. You’ll be an expert writer and communicator with the ability to create scripts that are focussed, clear and compelling. You’ll also need to be adaptable, with the ability to read bulletins, produce programmes and report on breaking news stories but always with the needs of audiences at the front of mind.
You’ll have a strong track record in both journalism and radio production with sound editorial judgment. You’ll have the ability to deliver stories fluently and persuasively on air, whether reading bulletins or reporting. You’ll understand not only which stories resonate with our audiences, but why. You’ll understand how to entertain those audiences, including under-served C2DE’s, and how important it is to make radio that’s full of personality as well as local flavour. You’ll be good at dealing with a diverse range of people and experienced at working with presenters. Berkshire is a busy patch and you will have the ability to work efficiently under pressure and to tight deadlines.
You may work across a range of shifts, including weekends.
