About this role
The TV and Broadband Core Infrastructure team supports all the converged service teams by designing and building the core infrastructure and environments that they all depend on. We support a multitude of diverse production and test platforms including the TV Vision service, Broadband test models, DNS platforms, Home Hub and STB testing, TV Headend and Media and Broadcast test networks. We help to ensure that BT customers get a great reliable and fault free experience when using any of the wide range of converged service products.
You'll have the following responsibilities
Liaise closely with the application teams to ensure their needs are designed and met as closely as strategy, budget, resources, and time allow, ideally ahead of time.
Ensure that all infrastructure is fit for purpose, supported within BT and directly via vendors, patched to deal with any known security or functionality concerns, that all data is resilient and backed-up off-site and performs according to requirements.
Engage with BT Architecture and Security teams to ensure that all components are compliant with ACF/CIP and SACS requirements, and to maintain these throughout the lifetime of the platform and its components.
To work with budget-holders to create Proofs-of-Concept, test environments, Production/Reference platforms, commissioning, and ultimately decommissioning, of the platform components needed to serve the BT TV service. This will include working with vendors to create Bill-of-Materials and orderable quotes that meet ACF/CIP rules and deliver the functional, resilience and performance requirements needed.
Work with BT’s external-cloud development teams to ensure that the application execution strategies can be met, and support cost-management activities for these systems.
Work with BT’s Dynamic Infrastructure team and our own network engineers to ensure the safety of our systems and client data in accordance with BT Security rules and recommendations.
Help to form overall strategies for data-centre usage, server/storage/operating-system/hypervisor/SDN/backup-system products.
Work with the team to deploy, modify and remove the various components as required and act as an escalation point for fault resolution, including working with vendors to resolve issues.
Act as a ‘front-door’ for new enquiries, whether simple queries or large and complex design needs.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to enhance team’s ways of working, operations and processes.
• Resolve technical issues raised by the team and/or customer and manages escalations as required.
• Overseeing and guiding the design of infrastructure, software or networks, ensuring a continuous team focus on quality and customer needs.
You'll have the following skills & experience
• Ability to make decisions in ambiguous situations using incomplete information or differing opinions (eg divided team loyalties or unclear deliverables).
• Alignment of project plans and objectives with BT strategy and values
• A Practitioner and advocate of the agile methodology.
• Actively participated in strategy setting sessions
• To suit the needs of a customer, colleague or client; moved outside of expected process or practice
• Been a spokesperson for others on issues of integrity
• Current components requiring expertise;
VMware’s vCenter/ESXi 6.7, vROps 8, Skyline, Windows Server 2016/2019, Linux v5-8, DNS, NTP, LDAP/AD, SSH, SSL/TLS Certificates, IPAM, basic Cisco switch config plus a good understanding of the seven-layer networking model, Ethernet, IP v4.
• Additional current components where knowledge would be advantageous;
VMware’s NSX-T, vCloud Director, vRealize Automation, Fibre-Channel networking – ideally including FCoE configuration, Infinidat systems and their use/config, NetApp filer systems and their use/config.
