Our Customs Proactive Intelligence Analyst is at the heart of identifying risks to our border and helping stop threats from reaching our shores.

 

We're looking for a motivated person to join our Intelligence unit. We have a great opportunity in the Proactive Intelligence Team supporting our work disrupting transnational organised crime. You will have either in-depth knowledge of Customs / the border environment or are an experienced Intelligence Analyst.

You will be a part of our Intelligence team increasing our capability to engage with both the domestic and international intelligence communities to disrupt the supply chain of illicit goods. You'll work collaboratively with other national and international agencies in the intelligence community. In this role you will be developing intelligence packages and working with the investigations teams and other agencies to carry out the work domestically.

 

You will be a part of the wider Intelligence, Investigations and Enforcement group and you will report to the Supervising Customs Officer of the team. You will generally work within regular hours - Monday to Friday and will be Auckland based. The salary range for this role is $60,208 - $77,074 with an allowance of $3,936 for working predictable hours. Mid-point or competent for the range is $69,823 plus allowance.

  • You will have a high level of attention to detail
  • You are experienced in applying the Intelligence Cycle including risk management processes
  • You have a natural curiosity and talent for finding patterns and anomalies
  • You are experienced working with large data sets and using analytical tools like Nexus, I2 Charts etc.
  • You understand information security principles (classifications, caveats, handling and sharing of information)
  • You're an experienced report writer who produces high-quality intelligence reporting
  • You're comfortable giving briefings to all levels
  • You thrive working under pressure
  • You love building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders

 

Ideally you will have intelligence experience, worked as an analyst and have the ability to learn the operational environment at Customs OR you may have a really good understanding of Customs' operational areas and are willing to upskill in intelligence practices.

 

This role is intellectually challenging and requires individuals who are conscientious and adaptable and comfortable interpreting legislation. Senior Customs Officers must take responsibility in managing their own and others' skills, knowledge and expertise to ensure a multi-skilled team approach.
