Privacy Legal Counsel


Location: (Full-time remote working during COVID-19) and then Newbury or London (Hybrid working)

 

What will you be doing? 

 

This role will provide support to Vodafone UK business units in relation to data protection and privacy. 


The role includes:
•    Advising on the implementation of privacy baseline requirements into new products and services.
•    Advising on privacy risk, mitigations and assisting with the privacy risk management process across a diverse range of matters including products, services, solutions, marketing campaigns and technology including websites and apps. 
•    Maintaining a record of our data processing activities that we undertake as controller and processor and identifying the lawful basis for the processing. 
•    Assisting with implementation of robust data protection and privacy compliance policies and controls. 
•    Supporting owners of high-risk data processing activities in ensuring activity is compliant with the law.
•    Providing contractual and bid support as a subject matter expert to UK legal team, including negotiations on contractual terms with customer and suppliers and preparing risk papers. 
•    Advising on data transfers including advising on, drafting and negotiating data processing agreements and model clauses. 
•    Supporting the privacy operations and frontline Customer Data Excellence Team in responding to enquiries from customers relating to the exercise of individual rights set out in data protection law. 
•    Building awareness of, and delivering training to, UK business teams on data protection and privacy issues.
•    Monitoring regulatory/legislative developments and drafting and updating company policies, processes and precedents as required. 
 

Who are we looking for?  

 

•    Knowledge of UK data protection law including UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) essential. 
•    Experience of advising on cookies, permissions, the data protection considerations for website and app functionality and marketing communications. 
•    Experience in a similar role and/or an understanding of the Data Protection risks faced by large data-driven and/or telecommunications organisations and telecoms regulation. 
•    Experience conducting data privacy compliance reviews and impact assessments. 
•    Experience in providing clear advice and direction when faced with competing demands and short deadlines. 
•    Experience of supervision and developing junior team members.
