About this role

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, skilled and hands on engineer who wants to be part of the Engineering and Operations department as we continue to deliver key strategic solutions on our technology road map with a Cloud Native strategy. The role is a brilliant opportunity to help shape how we use the cloud over the next few years. We are looking for an engineer with extensive experience working in a DevOps environment building Infrastructure as code. You will also be working closely with multiple delivery teams of infrastructure delivery, operations and software engineers with varied technical backgrounds to provide a resilient, easy to update business services using cloud technology.

You should be well versed in industry “best practice” and latest technology. You will help choose and deploy commercial and open-source tools and technologies to build and support the business, with an emphasis on operational self-service and continuous integration.

You'll have the following responsibilities

         Lead design and delivery of core cloud infrastructure services to support the delivery of projects.

Investigate and resolve problems within SLA.

Contribute to planning, including sizing, prioritisation and capacity management.

Follow and pro-actively inspect processes/standards and provide recommendation for improvements.

Use and improve configuration whilst maintaining quality through continuous integration and delivery tools.

Inspect and review work with the team and contributions from wider teams.

Share knowledge through documentation and presentations.

Manage your personal development and skillset.

Keep up to date with the latest development in your field.

Ensure all you work complies with legal, regulatory and policy constraints.

Coach other engineers in the team.

Provide technical training to the department in fields of expertise.

Contribute to interviews as part of the recruitment process.

You'll have the following skills & experience

Essential

Automated installation, upgrade and scaling of Apache CloudStack or similar technology.

Implementation of Infrastructure as a service following continuous integration best practices.

Configuration management using Puppet, Ansible or similar technology.

Automated Provisioning of Immutable Infrastructure with Terraform or similar technology.

Implementation of container cloud using Swarm or  Kubernetes.

Experience with LXC or Docker.

Experience with Linux/UNIX solutions.

Scripting in Ruby, Python, Bash or Pearl.

Demonstrable version control skills with good understanding of Test driven development and end to end software delivery.

Operational experience with the ownership, maintenance and scaling production grade system.

High availability or load balancer deployments.

Desirable

Implementation of Software defined networking.

Implementation of Databases MYSQL or Oracle.   

Strong communication skills.

Desire to knowledge share.

Ability to mentor other engineers with varying levels of expertise.
